  • Since

    1997

Santhi Medical Information Centre (SMIC), established as a registered society under the Travancore Cochin Cultural Scientific and Charitable Societies Read more Act of 1955, began operations on 24th September 1997. Focused on sectors such as agriculture, drinking water, education, health, family welfare, and tribal affairs, the organization is led by Mrs. Uma Preman as Secretary, with Ms. Nisha Ramesh as President and Ms. Komala Haridas as Treasurer. The head office is based in Guruvayoor, Thrissur District, Kerala. SMIC is also recognized under the FCRA registration Act 2010 by the Ministry of Home Affairs, Government of India (FCRA Reg. No: 052900372). Starting as a one-person initiative, SMIC has grown into a robust charitable institution with 85 staff members and over a hundred volunteers. It operates across eight districts in Kerala—Kasaragod, Kannur, Wayanad, Malappuram, Palakkad, Thrissur, Ernakulam, and Pathanamthitta—contributing significantly to community development and welfare. Its efforts continue to positively impact lives through dedicated programs and outreach.

Action

SMIC provides dialysis services, facilitates kidney transplants and heart surgeries, mobilizes treatment funds, offers mobile lab facilities, publishes medical directories, conducts free medical camps, and runs various health awareness and welfare projects.

Impact

Over 2,40,000 dialysis sessions have been carried out in 15 years for less privileged individuals, and 20,500 heart surgeries facilitated, including 184 for Gulf patients. More than ₹80 million has been mobilised for poor patients’ treatments from the Central Government and charitable institutions. Mobile lab facilities serve over 100 individuals daily with guidance provided via phone, letters, and email. Over 108 free medical camps have been conducted, and more than 3,100 camps organised under the Karuthal Diabetic & Hypertension Prevention Awareness and Kidney Disease Early Detection Project. It continues impactful initiatives like the Palamala Tribal Rehabilitation Project, organ donation awareness campaigns, and the ongoing free dialysis project.

Vision & Mission

SMIC aims to serve poor patients by providing medical advice, facilities, and financial aid in the health sector.

Programs

  • Low cost Prefabricated Anganwadi Project

It has collaborated with the District Administration of Changlang, Arunachal Pradesh, to construct low-cost prefabricated Anganwadi buildings. Due to inadequate government funding of ₹2 lakh per unit, the District Commissioner sought the organisation's expertise based on its successful projects in Kerala, Tamil Nadu, and Nagaland. The project replaces dilapidated kutcha structures, over 15 years old, with durable prefabricated buildings designed to last over 20 years. Implemented in two phases, the first phase completed 20 buildings, while the second phase aims to construct 30, with work ongoing. Materials are transported from Kerala to offset high local market costs.

  • Baby Care Solutions Project

    District
    State

It runs a project called Baby Care Solutions to provide free care for newborns of underprivileged parents in government hospitals across India. Inspired by observations in Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, Assam, and the Northeast, the initiative addresses the lack of essential baby care. Endorsed by the Health Department of Kerala and various government hospitals, it began in January 2021 by distributing baby care products to newborns at Kottathara Tribal Hospital, Attappady. It aims to expand nationwide with support from CSR companies.

Milestones & Track Record

SMIC has grown from a single staff member to a full-fledged charity institution with 100 staff and hundreds of voluntary staff and well-wishers, conducting over 108 free medical camps and launching the world's first health website containing vital hospital information.
