About

Support India Foundation was formed on 18th July 2015 to educate underprivileged children & spread awareness programs on menstrual hygiene for po Read moreor women living in the rural & slum areas of India. It was started by distributing books & other study materials in a few of the slum areas of Delhi. Later, it was realized that the distribution of books will not help these kids until they get proper education & guidance. The team young people started taking classes for a group of slum kids. There is no other way to transform their lives & build their carrier other than providing education to these underprivileged kids. It was also seen that women in rural & slum areas have more exposed to infection due to poor menstrual hygiene. This is one subject that is associated with the dignity of women. There are so many taboos attached to the subject. Support India Foundation team started taking awareness sessions for women. There are the following ongoing projects:   1.  Shiksha Se Vikas (Education Initiative) There have 4 Learning centers in North Delhi where we provide free & quality education to underprivileged kids. We run daily classes from Monday to Saturday (Sunday – Closed) for 2 hours after school. The classes are arranged in Slum locality in a rented place with the help of teachers from the same slum locality. We hire college-going & qualified teachers who also get partial employment by giving classes. The Students are from 1st Standard to 9th Standard enrolled in Government schools. We mainly focus on English & Mathematical skills Our 4 centers are as follows- Kanhiya Nagar, Srinagar (North Delhi) – 12 students Keshavpuram, Lawrence Road (North Delhi) – 8 students Prembaripul, Shalimar Bagh (North Delhi) – 16 Students Punjabi Bagh (West Delhi) – 14 Students Cost per month – 4,000 percenter including a salary of teachers, rented space & stationery items, etc. (No Administrative expenses) 2. Save My Earth Initiative Awareness session on Climate Change We are running a Nationwide initiative to educate students & youth about Environment protection & Climate Change. We are running a campaign in slum areas, schools & colleges to spread awareness on climate change & causes. We are also focusing on Environmental issues such as Environment protection, Global warming, Deforestation, etc. Human intervention in nature causing drastic changes in the Environment. Industrialization & deforestation have accelerated the rate of change in the climate due to the increase in Greenhouse gases. The global warming issue is increasing due to the burning of fossil fuel which includes car exhaust, industrial gas & other reasons. This is more of a human-created problem. The main problem is that many people don’t know about climate change. Some people know but don’t care about it. There is no tomorrow so we have act today only. We are taking awareness sessions for school kids & youth people who can help us to save our mother nature. This is not possible by one individual or few people to fight against Gaint Climate issues, this needs whole mankind to be well aware & act to save the earth. We need support from the Government, NGOs, Private companies & a large number of people. We are taking awareness sessions with the help of visual presentations & QA sessions with kids & youth. We are preparing a future generation to fight against global issues. The people must know how can we counter Climate change issues. We are playing our role to defeat Climate change step by step & addressing other environmental issues. 3. Speak up for change We believe in healthy women, healthy family & healthy nation philosophy. A family & the Nation cannot be healthy until women are healthier. We run awareness programs for rural & slum women & girls on menstruation hygiene & reproductive health. The women in rural areas & slums are not fully aware of safe menstrual practices. They usually use old dirty clothes & other non-clothing options such as Cow dung leaves as an absorbent during their periods which lead to Urinary tract infections (UTI), reproductive tract infection (RTI) & other fatal diseases. This is one of the subjects where not only men but women also don’t want to talk. This is one subject that is associated with shame & taboo. To ensure that adolescent girls & women have the necessary support and facilities, the wider society, communities, and families must challenge and break the silence around menstruation. We have taken initiative to make these women aware regarding safe menstruation practices. It is the fact that there is a lack of information on the process of menstruation and proper requirements for managing menstruation. The taboos surrounding this issue in society prevents girls and women from articulating their needs and the problems of poor menstrual hygiene management have been largely ignored or misunderstood. Good menstrual hygiene is crucial for the health, education, and dignity of girls and women. Equipping adolescent girls with adequate information and skills on menstruation hygiene and its management helps in empowering them with knowledge which enhances their self-esteem and positively impacts academic performances
