About

Shri. B D Tatti Annavaru Memorial Charitable Trust was born in the year 1994 with remedies for the problems in the mother location. B D T started its Read more journey with the vision to create equal opportunities for people with disabilities to become contributing members of society. The people that are involved with caring for the disabled and showing them how to move in right direction play a major role in contributing towards their satisfaction. The early days of the institution involved many critical situations but throughout the journey, we struggled to chase the challenges. We have a great mission to bring the persons with disabilities into the main stream of society by creating a barrier-free environment and opportunities for them to lead their life competently. The institute has strictly followed the vision and mission statement towards development. By keeping the entire institutional context in mind, every year we reach closer to our goal through the successful results of our tenth class students. As of today we have reached 192 hearing impaired students from various districts of the state.   Before 1996, the idea was born in the early morning and implemented in the late morning in the minds of founders of the institute. It was a very challenging task for the founder to start the hearing impaired school programs in the rural villages. Even though, communication was difficult in the beginning, day by day we started reaching more people. It resulted that we increased the number of services of the organisation to cover all kinds of disabilities. Currently, we are running five programs for the disabled community. Through this, every year we reach around 1000 people with disabilities in the working area.  As we quoted earlier about the various programs of the organisation, here you can view the point percent of all programmes in the institute. Firstly, we have pre-primary school for oral deaf education. This program is for those who have been early identified as deaf children and here this will act as a prevention of deafness at early age and it is a specialised programme for educating mothers, who in turn educate the child. We can call it a mother care centre. The second programme is residential school for hearing impaired. In this programme, we use total communication such as sign language, body language, and facial expressions as well as the required teaching materials to get clarity in the minds of our soundless students. The third programme of the institute is adult deaf education. In this programme, we admit SSLC pass/fail deaf children to feed them various concepts such as sign language, basic English, mathematics and craft work. These programmes were institutional programmes until 2008 organisation and during the year 2008, we started community based rehabilitation with the aim of reaching the un-reachable. Through this programme we work with two talukas (shirahatti and mundargi) of the Gadag District. In this programme, we work with four sectors-- therapy and mobility, inclusive education, advocacy and livelihood and training. As a result of these sectors, every year we increase the number of admissions to the disability services, such as those who have not been reached by any other persons or any other channels. Luckily our organisation is located in a remote part of north Karnataka. There is a track record of evidence of issues of disability in this area, which could be due to the climatic impact or the water impact that play a role in affecting the rural poor. Therefore, due to the climatic impact the rural poor of north Karnataka are facing various problems at an early age and in their day-to-day life. The present trend towards care and help to the cause in this area is very rare, and we are very lucky to get help from the Tata Education Trust for early detection and to prevent struggles at that age. Presently the institution has a good reputation for the worthy contribution towards the disabled community in the working area. The organisation has its own funding system for two programmes ie., oral deaf education and adult deaf education, and for residential school, we have support from state funding. Importantly, the community based rehabilitation programme is sponsored by the Association of People with Disability Bangalore and in the CBR, we have a specialised programme for early born babies in the working area called early disability identification and inclusive education. This programme is sponsored by Sir. Dorabji Tata Education Trust Bombay and the technical support comes from APD Bangalore. And for two years, the Desphande Foundation Hubli supported the Early Intervention and Early Education Conclusive part, whose whole context is to reach the organisational programmes, involving various stakeholders to train and provide guidance, which helps to reach un-reachable rural peoples with disabilities. At present, we are looking into the program that is Early Intervention and Early Education for 0-8 year in Gadag District with the help of the Azim Premji Foundation. This is for delayed-development children between 0-8 years where all the services will be given in a community based system. This is a specialised programme for newly born babies/children in the working area. The programme is efficient for those who have been detected early and they also get early benefits. We have undergone the screening process for early identification of children, and we assess the child for appliance and therapy and follow up for the same. Early education is a unique program for the disabled that have left school. It mainly educates individuals about the basic requirements for their day-to-day disability management and creates awareness about various schemes from the government and other organisations. And since last year, we have started Livelihood at Gadag District with the help of Enable India.
