    Rukhamabai Balikashram is a Girls Children Home for tribal girls in the Akkalkuwa Taluka of Nandurbar District. The home was established by Mr. Prakash.B. Patil who originally belongs to Gujarat. Rukhamabai was started in 2007 under the aegis of Mr. Patel’s ‘Rural Foundation’. While working on several projects in Nan durbar, Mr. Patel learnt about a major issue in the tribal areas of Nan durbar. In those areas, typically if one of the parent died, the other one would abandon the child

    and get remarried. The region is inhabited by Vasave and Valvi sub tribes of Bheel tribal community. The home presently houses 45 girls and 8 staffs. These girls come from tribal families where the parents and family members are mainly agricultural workers, marginal farmers, migrants who migrate for 6 months for sugarcane cutting or work in brick kilns.
