Research Programmes
TERRE focuses on researching effective governance and policies, drawing from traditional practices and innovative ideas globally. It collaborates with experts to identify methods that support development while preserving the environment, emphasizing both time-tested approaches and contemporary solutions.
-
Waste Management Programme
TERRE is actively engaged in waste management initiatives, encompassing the entire process from waste generation to its safe disposal. This involves collection, transportation, treatment, and monitoring, focusing on collaboration with international organisations, local Governments, municipal bodies, and private sectors. Through partnerships with entities like CCAC, the TERRE Policy Centre strives to create a clean and healthy environment. Additionally, it offers consultancy services for waste assessment, auditing, and provides expertise and equipment such as biogas plants, contributing to effective waste management practices.
-
Afforestation Programme
TERRE is deeply involved in afforestation efforts, focusing on reclaiming degraded lands affected by industrial activities and human intervention. This constitutes a significant portion of its activities, forming a flagship project aimed at restoring and preserving biodiversity through tree plantation, with trees reaching heights of 12 to 15 feet and ensuring self-sustainability of the area. Through its corporate social responsibility initiatives, TERRE has transformed four barren forest lands into lush green forests, facilitated by Tri-Party agreements involving the Forest Department, private sector partners, and TERRE. These endeavours also engage local communities, offering livelihood opportunities and contributing to initiatives like REDD+.
-
Education Programmes
TERRE recognises education as a crucial means to equip the present generation to safeguard the environment for future generations, aligning with sustainable development goals. Through its environmental education programmes, it aims to foster environmental awareness and action. These initiatives include the TERRE Olympiad, a national-level online quiz competition, as well as training programmes for school children and teachers, conducted in collaboration with the private sector through their corporate social responsibility activities.
-
Watershed Development Programme
Water scarcity is a pressing issue globally, particularly affecting regions like Maharashtra, where many villages struggle to access sufficient water for daily needs, including drinking water. Due to economic constraints, villagers often cannot afford water tankers. Recognizing its societal and environmental responsibility, TERRE has initiated a project, supported by CSR funding, to address this challenge. Through measures such as designing water harvesting systems, constructing wells, hand pumps, bore wells, and implementing watershed development initiatives, TERRE aims to provide a sustainable solution, ensuring access to water for the daily needs of farmers and communities in these areas.
