Programs

  • East Asia Studies

The program's objective is to promote comparative research throughout Asia as well as research on Japan. Two India-Japan conferences on China were arranged as part of this endeavour in association with the Japan Foundation. These conferences have facilitated future collaboration efforts by bringing together, for the first time, Indian and Japanese specialists in China.

To foster creative research projects that will advance our knowledge of this region and to increase scholarly interchange and conversation, preliminary contacts have also been made with experts on China and Japan in Australia, Thailand, and other regions of Asia.

The East Asia Series, edited by Brij Tankha, was launched by the East Asia Programme of the ICS to publish monographs and sporadic papers on topics related to the region, including political science, history, economics, culture, translations, and other relevant fields. These will be published after peer review.

  • India-China Comparative Studies

The India-China Comparative Studies Programme carries out comparative research on labour, social welfare, public health, and education-related topics. The studies involve a critical analysis of China's and India's developmental experiences as well as the similarities and differences in their respective methodologies.
