Apni Rasoi, an autonomous initiative under Vanangana, empowers marginalized Dalit and tribal women by providing employment through catering services. It challenges caste norms, breaking taboos surrounding food prepared by "lower castes." This project, operating with a state-wide reach, not only generates livelihoods but also questions deeply rooted gender and caste hierarchies, exemplifying Vanangana's commitment to reshaping social dynamics in Bundelkhand. It has evolved to include older members and women from the Valmiki and Muslim communities, demonstrating resilience and media recognition.

Dalit Mahila Samiti Programme
District

Chitrakoot
States
Uttar Pradesh
Dalit Mahila Samiti (DMS), mentored by Vanangana, plays a vital role in empowering Dalit women in Uttar Pradesh. With a membership of over 3000 women in two districts of Bundelkhand, DMS addresses the intersection of gender and caste. It prioritizes capacity-building, imparting technical skills such as hand pump repair and civil engineering to women who are often marginalized. DMS also fosters a deep understanding of social structures, enabling Dalit women to advocate for their rights, challenge unequal resource access, and combat violence and discrimination. This collective has emerged as a transformative force, advocating against exploitation and injustice based on caste identities. Together with Vanangana, DMS engages in campaigns addressing issues like violence against women, untouchability, women's participation in MNREGA, natural resource management, and education and food rights, among others.
