IndiaSpend was established in late 2011 by Govindraj Ethiraj, a television and print journalist and former Founder Editor-in-Chief of Bloomberg TV Ind Read moreia. It is rapidly evolving into a key source for data and facts on India's social and political economy, particularly in education and healthcare sectors. It harnesses open data to enlighten the public on various issues, aiming to promote better governance, transparency, and accountability. Data plays a vital role in shaping public discourse on crucial policy matters. The organisation aims to stimulate discussions and analyses driven by data, especially during a time when citizens actively engage in the governance process. It endeavours to engage young India by making data utilization exciting and their primary source of information through social media and innovative formats. In March 2014, the organisation introduced FactChecker.in, a dedicated fact-checking initiative scrutinizing statements by prominent public figures for accuracy and context. In April 2019, HealthCheck.in, an unprecedented resource on public health reporting in India, was launched. The organisation aimed to address the lack of data-driven journalism in India when the concept of a "data desk" was virtually non-existent in most newsrooms. Over the past decade, the organisation has shed light on critical aspects affecting our lives, such as public health, education, gender equality, social justice, climate change, environment, and livelihoods. IndiaSpend operates as a non-profit project of The Spending & Policy Research Foundation, headquartered in Lower Parel, Mumbai. It is registered as a Charitable Trust with the Charity Commissioner, Mumbai. IndiaSpend has well-researched articles in the following categories: • Health • Education • Gender • Environment • Economy • Agriculture • Governance
