Programs

  • Advocacy and lobbying

    RDO engages in advocacy and lobbying on behalf of the rural masses with the local, state, and federal governments on a range of topics. In villages, RDO is essential to the provision of basic infrastructure and utilities such homes, schools, roads, water, and sanitary facilities.

    An essential component of the operations of organizations dedicated to improving the lot of the weakest members of society is advocacy and lobbying. The RDO Trust has been actively involved in promoting and pressuring the government to implement a number of initiatives. In their effort to pass the Maharashtra Pattern of Employment Guarantee Act, 243 grassroots volunteer organizations have been successfully brought together by the RDO Trust.

  • Child Helpline 1098

    Childline 1098 services are available throughout India by the Ministry of Women & Child Development. The Childline India Foundation, a Mumbai-based Nodal Agency, is expanding the service. With two sub-centers managed by NAWA & SARAS, RDO has been chosen to provide services in the Nilgiris.

    RDO assisted in the rescue and rehabilitation of 630 children in a period of eighteen months.

    The district's child helpline assists in resolving issues of depression, school dropouts, begging, marriage, and sexual abuse.
    To assist the children, RDO collaborates closely with the departments of Revenue, Police, and Education.

  • Environment

    The RDO has established eco-clubs in sixty schools and plans frequent field trips for pupils from rural areas. The tasks include building restrooms, establishing herbal gardens, and planting trees. To further publicize the campaign against the threat posed by plastic bags in the Nilgiris, the RDO also arranged a 200-kilometre hike.

    In the Nilgiris, the RDO started the "Green Panchayat Project" with active assistance from NABARD. The initiative included a wide range of subjects, including soil and water conservation, waste management, cleanliness, sanitation, the negative effects of alcohol consumption, and the value of forests.
