Programs

  • School Support programme

    Description

    Provides high-quality education to low-income communities and financial support for teachers. Apple India has supported the Akanksha Foundation for their school support programme. It focuses on creating scalable models of quality schools for less fortunate communities. The model works within and beyond the classrooms to provide the children with a holistic learning experience.

    The three key components of the programme are:
    * Academic achievement: Focus on encouraging schools to use innovative teaching methods, curriculum, and proper technology for the student's learning experience.
    * Student well-being: Focus on the physical and mental well-being of the students using innovative programmes and co-curriculum activities to support the students.
    * Community engagement: Focus on integrating parents/community to be part of the school and the learning experience.

    An awareness-building campaign for 2500 persons and training for 1500 persons with visual impairment. Through digital empowerment, the campaign aims to transform
    persons with visual impairment into active citizens and nation-builders. It focuses on three key areas:
    * Awareness
    * Digital Literacy Training
    * Capacity Building of Resources and Partners

    The #SeeAMillion programme is not just a campaign. It's a movement. Designed to reach over 1 million individuals through awareness, capacity building, and digital literacy, its goal is to empower People with Disabilities with vision and transform them into active members of society and nation builders.

Hence, all callers in the platform can interact with it to post or listen to audio clips about their life experiences, access opportunities, and share advice and tips. The platform is currently available in 2 languages:
    * Hindi – Hamari Vaani (Our Voice)
    * Kannada – Namma Vaani (Our Voice)

    Changemakers: The Changemakers programme aims to build professionals to work in the space of livelihoods for PwDs’. The programme builds upon EnAble India’s existing Disability Professional Course; the organisation expanded and offered a fellowship that provided interested individuals both with and without disabilities the opportunity to gain competencies and build capacities to work to improve the livelihoods of persons with disabilities.

    In 2015, with Apple's support, Barefoot College International started evolving a complete EdTech solution for disconnected marginalised communities in off-grid, offline areas that can be sustainably scalable globally. These schools strive towards the holistic development of such children and enable them with advanced skills to make them job-ready for future markets.

  • Solar Programme

    Description

    The Solar programme is a flagship initiative by BCI which seeks to enable women from rural areas to become financially independent. The programme also incorporates measures to achieve environmental sustainability by training women to make solar products and sell it in their communities
    * By lighting up roughly 50 homes in their communities, the Solar Mamas have made a beneficial socioeconomic impact in their villages.
    * More than 88% of respondents said the programme met or surpassed their expectations and provided significant benefits.

    Mangrove Conservation is one of the most relevant and important initiatives that seeks to conserve the mangroves of Maharashtra through community-led conservation activities.
    During the community workshops, a beacon of hope emerged as we explored potential solutions related to mangroves. Representatives and leaders of the villages not only highlighted the harmful effects of climate change but also proposed exciting opportunities such as honey collection from mangrove forests and eco-tourism. These could potentially transform into sustainable livelihood options, bringing a wave of optimism.

    Biodiversity Surveys recorded the diversity in plants, birds, crabs, mammals, and a few
    unique species of mangrove snails. The team documented some 64 bird species, including 4 globally threatened bird species and new distribution records for three bird
    species.

    Improved cook stoves were distributed to households in the Koliwadi community in the Mothebhal village, which has reduced the extraction of wood for cooking while ensuring women’s safety and well-being. They have helped the fishing community increase their quantity of catch in crabs and other seafood during
    the night.
