TMTL was established in 2005, when TAFE acquired the Tractors, Engines and Gears divisions of Eicher Motors Limited in 2005.

TMTL’s Tractors Division at Mandideep near Bhopal, manufactures tractors under the Eicher brand, addressing the dynamic market demands in agriculture and needs of the modern farmers with a comprehensive range of tractors, implements and farm solutions, that are acknowledged for their rugged build quality, efficiency and low cost of operation. TMTL is probably the only manufacturer of both, air-cooled and water-cooled tractors in the world. Its top-of-the-line Research and Development (R&D) facility is capable of designing and developing new tractor models with its in-house prototype development and tooling competencies, that sets exemplary standards in the industry.

TMTL’s Engines Division manufactures specially designed engines for stationary and automotive applications and has a strong presence in the retail, agro, telecom and industrial segments. Based at Alwar, Rajasthan, the unit manufactures diesel engines and gensets in the 5 to 125 kVA range, that are marketed as Eicher Engines (upto 45 kVA) and TMTL Engines (62.5 kVA & above).

TMTL’s Transmissions Division, which houses an advanced manufacturing facility in Parwanoo, Himachal Pradesh, is capable of producing a range of gears, shafts and housings for captive consumption and OEMs

    Description

    TAFE Motors and Tractors Limited launched the "Be a #FarmDost" initiative in April 2015 to foster respect and appreciation for farmers and their contributions. This programme targets urban and semi-urban populations, encouraging them to empathise with farmers by experiencing the challenges of farming, even on a small scale. The initiative primarily operates online, engaging over one million followers worldwide and growing across platforms like LinkedIn, Pinterest, and Instagram. The campaign started in Mumbai, where people experienced farming through augmented reality and interacted directly with farmers. It has since expanded to malls, colleges, restaurants, and corporate environments, spreading the message of gratitude and respect for farmers and their vital role in society.

    TAFE Motors and Tractors Limited, guided by its leaders' belief in the power of education, has consistently supported quality educational initiatives for holistic development. The Paramakalyani Education Society, established in 1960, oversees Sri Paramakalyani College, offering courses in sciences and commerce to about 1,600 students, and Sri Paramakalyani Higher Secondary School, serving over 1,900 students from nearby villages. TAFE also supports the Sri Paramakalyani Nursery and Primary School, educating around 725 young children.

    TAFE actively assists its employees' children in pursuing higher education and recognises academic excellence through its Young Achiever Awards. In the Nilgiris, TAFE supports two higher secondary schools that provide education in both English and Tamil, focusing on the needs of underdeveloped areas. The organisation also supports Stella Maris College in Chennai to enhance faculty training and partners with the Sathya Sai organisations to provide free education and healthcare. These efforts have empowered many to excel in various fields.

Established in 1980 near Madurai, JRehab employs orthopedically challenged women to produce components like wiring harnesses and toolkit bags for TAFE’s tractors. This all-women unit operates as a regular business, consistently meeting targets. Inspired by former chairman Mr. A. Sivasailam's belief in focusing on abilities rather than disabilities, JRehab has earned national and state recognition for providing employment opportunities to people with disabilities. The unit offers transport, a supportive work environment, and free calipers to aid mobility, helping employees lead self-reliant and dignified lives.

In response to the 2015 Tamil Nadu floods, TAFE contributed to the Chief Minister's Flood Relief Fund and its employees actively participated in relief efforts, providing food, clothing, transport, and shelter to those affected. They also prepared care packages for employees impacted by the floods and organised medical camps to prevent disease outbreaks. Additionally, TAFE collaborated with the Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) to assist the Irula community, providing fishing nets, bicycles, and boats to improve their livelihoods and ensure sustainable living.
