Infosys Foundation

The Foundation seeks to address two crucial aspects of the education conundrum in India –
first, finding ways to create more opportunities for girls, especially those from marginalized sections
of society and rural areas, to stay in school longer and second, to fix the broken ladder connecting
education and employability for all. Today, less than half of India’s youth have the necessary
employable skills that the industry needs. The Foundation seeks to help holistically – from
foundational education for children to support for their higher education and job-skills
training – with a special focus on practical STEM and digital skills, as that’s where a large
percentage of future jobs will come from.

Access to primary healthcare, awareness of basic hygiene, and treatment of underprivileged patients beg attention. The Infosys Foundation advances healthcare by augmenting existing healthcare infrastructure. Since its inception in 1996, the Infosys Foundation has constructed hospital wards, built dharmashalas (rest houses), and provided medical equipment to various hospitals across India. The Foundation has also donated medicines in addition to organizing health camps in rural India.

The Foundation laid great emphasis on women’s and children’s health. Thus, there were projects such as building a 100-bed maternity and childcare hospital in Kanakapura, Bengaluru, partnering with the Centre for Cellular and Molecular Platforms (C-CAMP) to use technology-driven solutions to improve maternal, neonatal, and child health outcomes in public health settings in Karnataka, and working with Sangath to establish a model to increase awareness about maternal mental health in eight districts of Madhya Pradesh. These projects are meant to fortify the health situation of women and children, especially in rural areas, so that the women are not held back by health related reasons to meaningfully contribute to society’s growth. Education Foundation India, are efforts to clear the way for girls and women to create the next opportunities in their lives. This report shows a glimpse of the systemic changes the Foundation is making.

Natural lakes in and around Bengaluru are the pride of the city, but many are in disrepair due to waste and silt deposits and overgrowth of plants. The Foundation has been instrumental in rejuvenating water bodies across Karnataka and this year, it restored five lakes in and around Electronic City in Bengaluru. The rejuvenation efforts led to a combined capacity creation of 3.6 billion liters of water.
The Foundation has been working with Visakha Jilla Nava Nirmana Samithi (VJNNS) to implement innovative Gravity Fed Water Supply Systems in around 3,500 villages in Andhra Pradesh to ensure they get clean drinking water throughout the year. The Foundation has funded a total of 332 systems in seven years.

Support and vocational training help the destitute to live with dignity and earn a livelihood. The Infosys Foundation partners with non-government organizations (NGOs) to support destitute children and women. The Foundation supports programs of NGOs in rural areas across India:

The well-being of people living in rural areas ensures sustainable development. The Infosys Foundation works with local administration to achieve community development goals. It has constructed roads, provided drainage systems and electricity, and rehabilitated flood-affected victims in rural areas. The Foundation has donated more than INR 40 crore for rural development and livelihood projects such as awareness campaigns on hygiene, sanitation, vocational training and entrepreneurship.

Ancient art forms can be preserved and passed down from generation to generation by showcasing the skills of artists. The Infosys Foundation promotes traditional art, dance and craft. The Foundation identifies underprivileged artists who don't have access to contacts or help. These include writers, painters, poets, and musicians from different walks of life. The Foundation assists them on a need basis by offering financial assistance, promoting their art, or helping them receive the much-deserved recognition.
