The Assan Child and Women’s Welfare Society (formerly known as Indian Council for Child Welfare, Assam State Branch) has been working for the welfare Read more of women and children of the state especially for the weaker section of the society since its inception in 1967. The ACAWWS has been implementing its various programmes in the field of child welfare through the active cooperation of its nineteen District Councils. The ACAWWS is the recipient of National award in the field of child welfare in 1989 awarded by Ministry of Human Resource Development, Department of Women and Child Development, Govt. of India. The main activities is children home for girls (Kalyani Niwas) ,Shelter for urban homeless (Men) , Shishu Greh (Adoption Home), Ashaneer (Children home for special need children) Sponsorship programme, Open shelter for boys, Family Counseling Centre.

Action

ACTIVITIES OF ASSAM CHILD AND WOMEN’S WELFARE SOCIETY 1. CHILDREN HOME FOR GIRLS (KALYANI NIVAS): KALYANI NIWAS is a children home started in the year 2007 for needy and helpless girl children from 6 to 18 years, located at Sewa Mandir Road, Rupnagar. The home is running for accommodation and rehabilitation of children in the category of abandoned, orphanage, trafficking, domestic child labour, sexual harassment etc. and now 38 children are staying at the home. All children enrolled in formal school and some were engaged in different vocational activities. The home is registered under JJ Act 2015 and also approved Kalyani Niwas as children home by State child right protection Society under the scheme of ICPS. Kalyani niwas has also look after up the girls up to the age of 21 years under aftercare programme. 2. SHISHU GREH: This is a Home for Abandoned, Surrendered or Orphan Children of age group 0-6 years. Sishu Greh is call Specialized Adoption Agency and the main purpose of the home is Adoption. This home was established in the year 2004. The main objective of this home is to bring up the orphaned, abandoned, surrendered and relinquished children and find their loving parents, a family and thus, a loving home. This Home is recognized by the Central Adoption Resource Authority and funded by State child Protection Society (SCPS) for only twenty babies. At present 16 babies are staying. 3. OPEN SHELTER FOR BOYS: This project was initiated in the year 2010 for the children under the age group of 6 to 18 year who are rage pickers, child labours, beggars, street performers, orphans, trafficked kids and runaways. It is registered under Juvenile Justice (Care and Protection of Children) Act, 2015. Services like counselling, recreational, nutrition, non formal education and health checkup. Restoration has been done after verification family other wise the children transfer to CCI 4. ASHANEER (Home for Special Need Children: “ASHANEER” is a home for Special Need girl Child below the age group of 6-18 years located at Rupnagar,Guwahati-32. The home is run for accommodation, treatment and rehabilitation of children in the category of mentally retired, blind,Cerebral pulse, locomotors etc. The girls belong from abandoned, orphaned, trafficked, domestic child labour, sexual harassed etc. and at present 18 no children are staying at the home. 5. FAMILY COUNSELLING CENTRE: This is one of the projects of Assam Child and Women’s Welfare Society located at the premises of CID, H/Q, Assam which provides counseling to those families who had conflict in account of marriage , domestic problem etc. During the financial year 2024 to 2025 March total numbers of cases registered 155. 6. SHETER FOR URBAN HOMELESS (Male Shelter) :This project named “Shelter for Urban Homeless for Male” is running since June'2019,to provide shelter & ensure that no one is deprived of a safe & vulnerable situation. This project was started in a rented house at Mathgharia, Guwahati-20. The shelter home has conducted massive awareness programme in the Ghy City. There were a total number of 42 people in the year 2024-25 at Urban Shelter for Homeless for (Male Shelter). 7. SPONSORSHIP AND AWARDS : The society has been providing scholarship for poor and needy student for education. Awards has been given to Topper students on various subject of Board and University. 8. MON ASHA NEER : A school for special child at Rupnagar. 9. Vocational Training centre- Cutting, Knitting and tailoring unit for Girls 10. Physio Therapy centre- Neer Physio therapy centre running for physio therapy.

MORE THEN 100 GIRL CHILD AT CHILDREN HOME- impact on grow and development, physical and mental health, feelings and behavior's of childrens.
