Seaweed Cultivation Activity
ICCSIR is pioneering land-based seaweed cultivation in India, marking the first such attempt in the country. Currently, pilot-scale cultivation of Kappaphycus sp., Gracilaria sp., and Ulva sp. is underway. Advanced technology for both land-based and sea cultivation is being developed, enabling fishermen and coastal farmers to adopt these methods. This initiative serves as an additional income source, contributing to livelihood enhancement and economic sustainability in coastal communities.
