ICCSIR is pioneering land-based seaweed cultivation in India, marking the first such attempt in the country. Currently, pilot-scale cultivation of Kappaphycus sp., Gracilaria sp., and Ulva sp. is underway. Advanced technology for both land-based and sea cultivation is being developed, enabling fishermen and coastal farmers to adopt these methods. This initiative serves as an additional income source, contributing to livelihood enhancement and economic sustainability in coastal communities.

ICCSIR aims to enhance the livelihoods of fishermen and coastal farmers by creating additional income opportunities. To achieve this, specialized training and skill development programs are being planned. Through these initiatives, interested individuals will receive guidance and hands-on training in seaweed cultivation, enabling them to become self-sufficient in the field. This effort supports economic empowerment and sustainable growth within coastal communities.
