Bel-Air was founded in Pune in 1912 and moved to Panchgani in 1914, where its climate was ideal for tuberculosis recovery. Despite TB being considered Read more incurable at the time, Bel-Air provided care to thousands, offering free treatment to the poor while facing significant challenges. Renowned for its excellence in patient care, Bel-Air became one of the country's top institutions. In 1964, the hospital and sanatorium were entrusted to the Indian Red Cross Society, Maharashtra State Branch, becoming a Red Cross project. Expanding its mission beyond TB, Bel-Air addressed the HIV/AIDS crisis in 1995, stepping in when hospitals refused admission, government support was lacking, and ART was unavailable.

    District

    Recognizing Bel-Air's exceptional healthcare services in Mahabaleshwar Taluka, the Government of Maharashtra entrusted it with two Primary Health Centers in Taldeo and Tapola, along with 14 sub-centers. This marked the first instance of such a transfer to another organization. Under Bel-Air's management, these PHCs have emerged as top performers in the district, setting a benchmark for comprehensive rural healthcare.

  • Village Health and Development Programme

    District

    For years, Bel-Air Hospital has led a comprehensive village health and development program in Mahabaleshwar Taluka, Satara District, covering 123 remote villages. With support from various organizations, initiatives include medical camps, hygiene awareness, safe drinking water projects, and nutritional support for children. Improved healthcare access has transformed community well-being. Recognizing this impact, the Government of Maharashtra entrusted Bel-Air with two PHCs and a rural hospital, now top performers in the district.
