Caring for frontline healthcare workers - During the rapid spread of the pandemic, Intel India engineers quickly designed and produced lightweight, simple, and cost-effective face shields to protect frontline healthcare workers.

Support for HAL Covid-19 Care Center in Bengaluru - Facing an unprecedented demand for oxygen and emergency care, Intel India partnered with an NGO to support the HAL Covid-19 Care Center in Bengaluru. The collaboration resulted in the installation of an additional 50 oxygen beds and the procurement of essential drugs and patient kits, thereby saving lives.

Advancing AI-based diagnostic solutions and risk stratification strategies - In response to the pandemic, government, academia, and industry united their efforts. Intel India contributed its expertise in AI-based diagnostic solutions, genome sequencing, and risk stratification strategies to enhance the prevention, diagnosis, containment, and treatment of COVID-19.

Artificial Intelligence (AI) transforms vehicles, roads, and drivers by enabling smarter and safer transportation systems. In 2021, Project iRASTE (Intelligent Solutions for Road Safety through Technology and Engineering) launched as a collaborative initiative that united key industry, government, and academic stakeholders to enhance the safety of Indian roads.

Intel India is developing Wireless-over-Wire (WoW) technology to expand broadband access in rural India. Utilizing Intel-built IP, the technology leverages existing power lines to deliver affordable broadband in areas where fiber or other wireless solutions are not commercially viable. Moreover, WoW broadband remains operational during power failures by transmitting signals through single-wire communication or surface wave technology without relying on electricity.

Intel strives to make technology fully inclusive while expanding digital access and readiness for everyone. Digital readiness encompasses essential skills, trust, and the responsible use of technology to deliver broad socio-economic benefits. The Intel® Digital Readiness Program Portfolio rolled out globally in collaboration with governments, academia, civil society, and industry partners. Intel plans to partner with governments in 30 countries, enable digital access to 30,000 institutions, and equip 30 million people with skills for current and future jobs by 2030.

In India, the programs demystify and democratize AI for the next generation of innovators, government leaders, and citizens in an inclusive manner.

In 2019, Intel India launched the comprehensive AI readiness program, Intel® AI For Youth, in collaboration with the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) and the Ministry of Education, Government of India. The program empowers young people to demystify AI, equips them with the necessary skills and mindset, and democratizes access to AI tools, enabling them to create solutions that drive meaningful social impact.

The Indian government acknowledges the need to enhance the skills of government leaders and policymakers in deploying AI to drive governance processes and improve decision-making. The National E-Governance Division (NeGD) under the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology partnered with Intel India and UNDP India to launch a series of 100 workshops called the Digital India Dialogues for government leaders. This collaborative program equips officials with essential AI skills through these workshops.

Intel India is expanding the inclusive talent pipeline for its industry through innovative education initiatives and STEM programs designed for girls and underrepresented groups. Under the BeingWISE diversity and inclusion program, Intel India trained women engineering students in emerging technologies such as artificial intelligence (AI), Internet of Things (IoT), robotics, and security. Intel India employee volunteers also mentored female students in STEM subjects through technical and soft skills workshops and hackathons in collaboration with training partners. The students then showcased their projects at the conclusion of the training sessions.

Intel funded the rejuvenation of two lakes—Lake Dyavasandra and Lake Nanjapura—in Bengaluru, in collaboration with NGO partner CLEAN International. The Dyavasandra project increases the capacity of the degraded lake, promoting groundwater recharge and revitalizing the ecosystem. The initiative improves water quality and provides habitat benefits through natural wetland filtration. Intel planted 1,500 trees around the lake and created an outdoor space for the local community, achieving a restoration benefit of 67 million gallons per year (MGY).
