SJVN Limited, a Navratna CPSE under the administrative control of the Ministry of Power, Government of India, was established on May 24, 1988, as a jo Read more int venture between the Government of India (GOI) and the Government of Himachal Pradesh (GOHP).

Starting with a single project and state operation—the 1500 MW Nathpa Jhakri Hydro Power Station, India's largest hydroelectric project, in Himachal Pradesh—SJVN has since expanded significantly. The company has successfully commissioned 14 projects with a total installed capacity of 2,467 MW and a 123 km transmission line. Currently, SJVN is developing and operating power projects across multiple states, including Himachal Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Bihar, Maharashtra, Uttar Pradesh, Punjab, Gujarat, Arunachal Pradesh, Rajasthan, Assam, Odisha, Mizoram, and Madhya Pradesh, as well as in Nepal.

      Description

      Satluj Sanjeevani Sewa is a healthcare initiative providing essential medical services, especially in remote and project-affected areas. Mobile Medical Units (MMUs) operate in collaboration with HelpAge India, Piramal Swasthya Management and Research Institute (PMSRI), and Dhanush Foundation under the “Chikitsa Chikitsak Aapke Dwar” program, conducting health camps and awareness sessions.

      Specialized healthcare services include multi-specialized health camps in District Chamba, eye check-up cum cataract surgery camps in project areas, and Mega Eye & General Health Camps in Prayagraj, Uttar Pradesh. Dental care, physiotherapy, and X-ray services are also available in key locations.

      Women and child development efforts include financial aid for Below Poverty Line (BPL) women and support for TB patients under the Ni-Kshay Mitra program.

      Support for persons with disabilities (Divyangjan) includes distribution of assistive devices through ALIMCO, financial aid for wheelchairs and stretchers at IGMC Shimla and the Municipal Corporation, Shimla.

      Emergency medical infrastructure is strengthened through ambulance procurement for GP Chipura, Bihar, a mortuary vehicle for Kangra, and the renovation of an Ayurvedic Health Centre in Village Bathara, Shimla.

      Swachhta Pakhwada 2023 promoted cleanliness, waste management, and environmental sustainability through various initiatives. Key efforts included the installation of a solid waste disposal machine, cleanliness drives in hospitals and public spaces, and awareness campaigns via media and social media.

      Environmental initiatives focused on tree plantation, discouraging plastic bag use, recycling plastic bottles, and collecting empty milk pouches for recycling in Himachal Pradesh. E-waste disposal and paper waste recycling mechanisms were also introduced. To improve hygiene, sanitary pad incinerators and water purifiers were installed in schools and libraries, along with the distribution of sanitization materials.

      Community engagement was fostered through competitions in government schools, Swachhta Hi Sewa 2023, and the ‘Swachh Diwali Shubh Diwali’ campaign. The SAUHARD program encouraged the donation of surplus household items to the needy.

      Infrastructure improvements included the installation of recycle/non-recycle dustbins and construction of public toilets at various locations, including Rampur, Shimla, and Kullu. River cleanliness drives further enhanced water sanitation efforts.

Sponsorship is provided for project-affected youths in Government ITIs, with efforts to develop them as ‘Centres for Excellence’. Deen Dayal Upadhyay SJVN Krishi Kaushal Yojana and other skill development programs are conducted in collaboration with various agencies. Special training is offered to kins and dependents of Army personnel in Himachal Pradesh to enhance employability.

      To promote academic excellence, the SJVN Silver Jubilee Merit Scholarship Scheme supports deserving students, while a reward scheme for toppers recognizes outstanding achievements. Assistance is extended to initiatives like the Children’s Science Congress (CSC) to encourage scientific learning.

      For livelihood enhancement, a horticulture-based livelihood project benefits NJHPS project-affected communities in District Kinnaur, Himachal Pradesh.

      Infrastructure development includes the construction of a hostel for female civil service aspirants in Delhi, providing better opportunities for young women. Other projects include a new library at Government Senior Secondary School, Tharoch (Shimla), renovations at Government Primary School, Sector-03, New Shimla, and construction work at Government Primary School, Poshana (Tehsil Nirmand, Kullu) and Saraswati Vidya Mandir, Jangla, Chirgaon (Shimla). Additionally, an emergency staircase has been built for DAV Public School, Duttnagar, ensuring student safety.

      To promote eco-tourism, two E-Carts (Electric Buggies) have been deployed in Baga Sarahan, Tehsil Nirmand, District Kullu, offering an environmentally friendly mode of transport.

      As part of spiritual infrastructure development, financial support has been extended for the construction and redevelopment of Shri Badrinath Dham (Sheshtra Lekh) town, transforming it into a Spiritual Smart Hill Town. Additionally, the development of Kedarnath Town, including a pilgrim accommodation block, is being undertaken through the Shri Kedarnath Utthan Charitable Trust (SKUCT). Efforts also include the development of cultural heritage sites in Himachal Pradesh, with significant contributions towards the Parshuram Temple Complex in Nirmand.

      Multiple religious sites have undergone renovation and restoration, including the Sidh Baba Balak Nath Temple (Jakhu), Sankat Mochan Temple (Shimla), Ashutosh Shiv Mandir (New Shimla), and Nag Devta Temple (Annadale, Shimla), where a Satsang Bhawan/Community Hall and boundary wall were constructed. Further development includes the construction of Annapurna Bhawan in Lakhdata Peer Complex (Village Dohak, Gram Panchayat Badgon Galu, District Bilaspur) and infrastructure upgrades at Mahavir Khushala Temple (Shoghi, Shimla).       Financial assistance is provided for the Library-cum-Archaeological Site at Khari Gompa (Jangi) and the Tourist Facilitation Centre at Rukshlang Monastery (Tehsil Pooh, District Kinnaur), preserving historical knowledge and improving visitor facilities.

      Cultural promotion efforts include financial assistance for organizing the International Lavi Fair in Rampur (District Shimla) and support for the Summer Festival in Shimla, fostering tourism and cultural exchange. Fencing and boundary walls have been constructed at Vivekananda Kendra Kanyakumari, Shimla, and Panchayat Bhawan, Tunan, Tehsil Nirmand, District Kullu.

      Community infrastructure has been strengthened with the construction of Panchayat Bhawans in GP Bindla, Tehsil Karsog, District Mandi, and GP Bag, Sunni, Shimla, as well as the renovation of the Community Hall at Village Majhewali, Gram Panchayat Funja, Tehsil Rampur, District Shimla. Additional improvements include the construction of a roof over the open space in front of the Community Centre in Bayal, Gram Panchayat Gadej, Tehsil Nirmand, District Kullu, and the restoration of the damaged retaining wall at the local bus stand in Bayal, Tehsil Nirmand, District Kullu.

      To improve connectivity and transportation, an ambulance road has been constructed in Village Koyal, GP Gadej, ensuring better accessibility to healthcare services.
