Empowering Underprivileged Children through Education and Vocational Training
DistrictSankalp initiated a transformative project in Haryana by establishing three educational and vocational centres—two in Uklana village and one in Parbhu Wala, Hisar district. These centres focused on rag-picking and working children, offering basic literacy to those aged 6–11 and vocational training to girls aged 11–14. The initiative also aimed to raise community awareness about the importance of education and strengthen school-community ties. Mid-day meals were provided to support overall well-being. The program impacted 102 children through education and empowered 75 girls with vocational skills.
-
Empowering Girls Through Sanitation Infrastructure
Sankalp Society launched the “Construction of Girls’ Toilets” initiative to combat the high dropout rates of girls in elementary schools due to inadequate sanitation facilities. With only 55% of Indian schools having toilets for girls—and many of those non-functional—Sankalp constructed gender-sensitive toilets with water supply to create a safe and inclusive environment. The initiative benefits 807 enrolled girls and aims to improve enrollment, retention, and educational completion. Community involvement and parental engagement were key, with residents pledging to maintain the facilities and support girls’ education.
-
Empowering Girls Through Vocational Training
StateAs part of its mission to uplift the girl child, Sankalp distributed sewing machines to four Government schools in Delhi. This initiative aimed to equip girls with vocational skills in sewing, integrated into their school curriculum through dedicated instructional periods. With active support from school authorities and trained vocational instructors, the program ensured sustained usage and maintenance of the machines. A total of 1,194 girls benefitted from this effort, gaining hands-on experience and a practical skill that can support their future livelihoods and self-reliance.
-
Empowering Vision Through Technology
Sankalp launched a transformative initiative by donating laptops to visually challenged children associated with the National Association of the Blind (NAB), Delhi, and Samarthanam Trust for the Disabled. These organizations, established in 1986 and 1997 respectively, focus on the education and skill development of persons with disabilities. As part of Sankalp’s Skill Development Programme, laptops were provided to support basic computer training for young adults with visual impairments. This meaningful effort currently benefits 20 children, aiming to bridge the digital divide and foster independence through technology-driven learning.
