VidnyanVedh is our core school-based program for children, primarily in rural government schools. The program uses activity-based learning, inquiry-driven approaches and the scientific method to make classroom learning more meaningful and connected to children’s everyday experiences.

Through hands-on activities, experiments, observation, discussion, questioning and reflection, children are encouraged to move beyond memorising information and develop the habit of asking questions, investigating, reasoning and finding evidence. The program focuses on both conceptual understanding and scientific skills such as observation, experimentation, interpretation and communication.

Children are also assessed through a combination of theory and practical assessments to understand not only what they know, but how they apply concepts and reason about them.

VidnyanJagruti works with teachers to strengthen their capacity to create experiential and inquiry-oriented classrooms.

Teachers participate in regular training sessions where they experience activities as learners, understand the underlying pedagogy and explore how these approaches can be adapted to their own classrooms. Training is supported by ongoing mentoring and handholding, helping teachers move from understanding experiential learning to actually practising it in their classrooms. We try to activate the Science labs provided by government in these schools with the help of teachers.

The program also supports teachers in developing low-cost teaching-learning resources, science models and practical activities that can be used with locally available materials.

    Maharashtra

VidnyanGhar is a community-based learning space designed to give children opportunities to learn beyond the boundaries of the formal school system.

The centre provides a safe and stimulating environment where children can explore, experiment, read, make, discuss and learn through their own questions and interests. Activities are designed to build curiosity, creativity, problem-solving and collaboration while connecting learning with everyday life.

VidnyanGhar also creates an opportunity for parents and community members to become participants in children’s learning rather than seeing education only as the responsibility of the school.

  • Dr. Kalam Mobile Science Lab

    District

    Jalgaon

    States

    Maharashtra

The Dr. Kalam Mobile Science Lab takes hands-on science learning directly to schools that have limited access to laboratory facilities and practical learning resources.

The mobile lab reaches schools with experiments, science activities, models and practical learning experiences, enabling students to experience scientific concepts rather than only reading about them in textbooks.

The initiative helps bridge the gap between textbook-based science and real-world experimentation, particularly for children who may have limited opportunities to access a functioning science laboratory.

Impact

Over the years, Mil Ke Chalo has reached thousands of children and teachers across rural Maharashtra through school-based programs, community learning spaces and mobile science education. Our work has reached 1,900+ students through VidnyanVedh, 45 teachers through VidnyanJagruti, and 8,000+ students through the Dr. Kalam Mobile Science Lab. Through our teacher's training program we have reached 1500+ students indirectly. Our community learning centre at Vawade has been creating opportunities for children to learn beyond the classroom for several years. Beyond numbers, we aim to see a deeper change in how children learn — from receiving answers to asking questions, from memorising concepts to exploring them, and from being passive learners to becoming curious and confident thinkers. We are also building the capacity of teachers and local leaders so that this change can become sustainable within rural communities.
