Gramya Vikash Mancha(GVM) is based in Assam, India and focuses on the socio-economic development of rural communities. The organisation runs various p Read morerogrammes to achieve this objective. In terms of education, GVM works towards improving access to quality education by setting up schools, libraries, and offering scholarships to underprivileged students. To improve healthcare, GVM provides healthcare services, conducts awareness campaigns, and promotes hygiene and sanitation. GVM also focuses on women's empowerment by creating self-help groups, providing vocational training, and promoting gender equality. In addition, GVM works towards sustainable management of natural resources, such as land, water, and forests, to promote ecological balance and enhance livelihoods.

Mission statement of GVM: GVM exists to empower the rural community particularly the underprivileged and women to take control over the social institution and to improve their quality of life; thereby create a society where these people can live with dignity. This is being achieved through creating opportunities for gainful self employment , ensuring sustainable livelihood, enhancing social justice and sense of brotherhood, assisting and encouraging in their peace , progress and needs.

Programs

  • Child Rights Programme

    District

    Through its partnership with Child Rights and You (CRY), GVM has implemented various child rights programmes in rural Assam. These include creating child protection committees, promoting access to education, healthcare, and nutrition, sensitising communities about child rights, preventing child labour and child marriage, setting up child-friendly spaces, and organising recreational activities.

  • DBI Programme

    GVM’s Diversion Based Irrigation(DBI) attempts to divert canal water for agricultural purposes by building barrages. It helps in the control of the flow of water and also in conservation of this natural resource. It is also involved in providing agricultural inputs like soil health cards, crop planning and package of practices in addition to modern methods of farming to individual rural households to support their livelihoods.

  • Internet Saathi Programme

    Partnering with Google India, PMG Asia and Tata Trusts, GVM trains rural women (Internet Saathis) to use smartphones and the Internet, who then teach others in their communities. The programme provides digital literacy skills and internet access, enabling access to resources related to healthcare, education, finance, and government services.

  • ITE Programme

    The Integration of Technology in Education (ITE) is a programme of GVM partnering with Tata Trusts that integrate technology into teaching and learning, with a focus on resource-poor areas. The goal is to use technology as a tool to enhance teaching, learning processes, and foster digital citizenship.

  • Livelihoods Programme

    The programme aims to improve the annual income of marginalized families through agriculture and allied livelihoods. The aim is to strengthen 50 community-based organizations, reducing input costs in paddy cultivation, promoting SRI methods and ensuring sustainable food security. Other activities include crop planning, vegetable cultivation, kitchen gardens, vermicompost organic farming, irrigation installation, pig-rearing and hybrid activities.

  • Adolescent Empowerment In Assam

    The developmental goal of the project is to “Create a society in every village where blissful existence and progress of girl adolescents are ensured “. The immediate objectives of the project is to “ To empower community to promote and lead sustainable social culture for ensuring rights of girls adolescents in each village” , The specific objectives of the project are: 1) To ensure retention of girls adolescent in schools by 90 % in each targeted village within three years 2) To increase the percentage of girls adolescents maintaining better health status by at least 90% of existing level in each village within three years 3) To increase number of marriage at only after attaining legal age by 90% of existing level in each village within three years. The project is directly covering 7500 adolescent girls from the targeted area as primary stakeholders. In addition to that, another 2500 adolescent girls and 1000 adolescent boys, 2000 mothers from the project area as well as adjacent areas will be indirectly benefitted under 75 most vulnerable villages of Nalbari, Baksa , Barpeta and Kamrup (Rural) district of Assam.

  • Comprehensive Village Development Initiative In Nalbari District Of Assam

    The project aims to accelerate socio economic growth of at least 6000 marginalized families, enhance community action for initiating sustainable development process, and thereby create peaceful, prosperous and egalitarian society in 7 villages under Baksa district of Assam within three years. The specific objectives of the project are: 1) To increase volume of production by 70% and income by 50 % of existing level among 1000 families within three years 2) To ensure sustainable use of natural water bodies and renewable energy, thereby reduce cost of production by 50 % in farming activities within three years 3) To ensure retention and completion of elementary education at least by 85% among targeted children in each village 4) To improve basic health indicators by 70% of existing level in each village within three years 5) To ensure safe drinking water and sanitation facilities among at least 70% families in each village within three years.

1) North East Social Impact Award: The award was received in the year 2015 from North East Development Foundation for the best impact achieved among the community under the project “Promotion of diversion based irrigation project in Nalbari, Baksa and Kamrup (R) district of Assam”, supported by Tata Trusts, implemented by Gramya Vikash Mancha.
2) Jeevan’s special 10 of the year award: The award was received in the year 2014 from Jeevan Initiative for the best impact achieved among the community under the project “Promotion of diversion based irrigation project in Nalbari, Baksa and Kamrup (R) district of Assam”, supported by Tata Trusts, implemented by Gramya Vikash Mancha.
3) Best community organization award: The award was received in the year 2012 from the District Administration, Nalabri on the occasion of Independence Day as best community organisation award for its developmental works among the weaker section of the society in Nalbari district.
4) Achievement Award: The award was received in the year 2010 from Indo Global Social Service Society (IGSSS) for best implementation and impact of the project “People Empowerment for Accessing Rights to Livelihood Project” in Baksa district of Assam.
5) Integrated approach to Technology in Education (ITE) has been selected as WINNER of the 7th eNabling North East [eNorth East] Award 2019 - 2020 in category: Quality Education & Learning.
6) Providing safe drinking water through community owned water purification system in the arsenic and iron affected areas of Assam been selected as SPECIAL MENTION (Runners up) of the 7th eNabling North East [eNorth East] Award 2019 - 2020 in category: Health, Sanitation & Well-being.
