Holistic Rural Development Program (HRDP)
The Holistic Rural Development Program (HRDP), supported by HDFC Bank under the Parivartan initiative, is being implemented in the Nawada district of Bihar to enable sustainable and inclusive development of rural communities through integrated interventions across education, livelihoods, health & WASH, natural resource management and women empowerment. The program combines entrepreneurship development, promotion of natural and organic farming, establishment of mushroom and poultry units, high‐yield pulse cultivation, kitchen gardens and vegetable production to enhance rural livelihoods, while also improving community infrastructure such as smart schools, solar-based irrigation systems and renovated Anganwadi centres. With a strong focus on community participation, the program forms and strengthens local institutions like Village Development Committees and farmer collectives, conducts capacity-building and exposure visits, and organizes health and veterinary camps, thereby creating resilient rural communities capable of driving their own long-term progress.
-
Community Empowerment Programme (CEP)
The Community Empowerment Program (CEP) is designed to create long-term, self‐sustaining change within mica-dependent communities by addressing the root causes of poverty, vulnerability, illiteracy and poor working conditions. Focusing on five key domains—livelihood promotion, education, social entitlements, health & WASH, and advocacy—the program implements a mix of individual, small group and community-level interventions to ensure inclusive reach and relevance. Building on a graduation model, CEP supports ultra-poor households with livelihood assets, vocational skills and financial literacy, while also improving agricultural productivity through kitchen garden training and seed distribution. To enhance access to quality education, the program provides scholarships to deserving children, establishes Balwadi centres, schools and community libraries, and supplies schools with sports and learning materials alongside capacity-building for teachers. Health camps and hygiene awareness campaigns improve health outcomes, and specialised linkage camps and a dedicated Resource Centre enable communities to access their rightful social entitlements and government services, ultimately empowering mica-dependent communities to lead a dignified and resilient life.
