With a strong partnership with Heifer International, their combined mission drives Livestock Based Sustainable Livelihood approaches and the development of resilient communities. Its efforts focus on empowering women and increasing household income, recognizing women as vital earning members. By establishing community-based enterprises and facilitating collaboration among stakeholders, it ensures equitable returns for producers and smallholder farmers. Its work extends across states, with initiatives implemented in Sikkim, Rajasthan, Bihar, and Jharkhand. ASSET comprehensive approach includes implementing better animal and resource management practices, devising effective fodder strategies, fostering community entrepreneurs, and building family and community-level business plans. These initiatives holistically enhance household incomes, family nutrition, and environmentally responsible practices, contributing to a more sustainable future.

  • Vaishali Socio Economic Development (VSED) Project

    ASSET & W India runs the Vaishali Socio-Economic Development (VSED) Project. This endeavour empowers 800 women farmers—200 directly, 600 indirectly—improving economic livelihoods and animal management. Another initiative, "Asset India," focuses on objectives like goat productivity enhancement through breeding interventions. Social capital forms via Self Help Groups, fostering collective business and social positioning. Community Agro Veterinary Entrepreneurs receive training, expanding livestock service delivery. VSED aligns with seven UN SDGs, employing inclusive market systems to combat poverty, hunger, and environmental challenges while emphasizing gender integration.

  • Jharkhand Opportunities for Harnessing Rural Growth (JOHAR) Project

    ASSET & W collaborates with the Jharkhand State Livelihood Promotion Society for the Jharkhand Opportunities for Harnessing Rural Growth (JOHAR) Project. Its objective is to boost incomes by promoting goat rearing, pig farming, and backyard poultry adoption. It facilitates Improved Animal and Resource Management (IAM) practices through training, including the "Passing on the Gift" approach and Heifer's 12 Cornerstones. The project spans 16 Jharkhand districts, serving 80,000 Producer Group members in six years. Trained Pashu Sakhi and Cluster Livestock Managers provide value chain services, spreading awareness and establishing breeder villages. The initiative strengthens inter-community bonds, enhancing production quality as per market demand, and ensuring sustainable and fair markets. Training covers diverse topics like housing, feed formulation, and animal health care.
