Its network includes a tertiary hospital in Delhi; 5 secondary hospitals, in Alwar (district Alwar) in Rajasthan; Rampur Maniharan (district Saharanpur), Mohammdi (district Lakhimpur Kheri), Meerut (district Meerut) and at Vrindavan (district Mathura) in Uttar Pradesh and 34 Vision Centres offering primary eye care to the remotest rural areas of Rajasthan, UP and urban slums of Delhi.  The community has always remained an integral part of the institution and finds reflection in the board mandate that minimum 50% of the annual surgical work has to be done free or highly subsidized. The regular services to the community through vision centers and satellite centers are also provided through special projects that the institute takes up from time to time with collaborators around the world.


Action

SCEH operates a tertiary center in Daryaganj, Delhi, along with secondary centers in Uttar Pradesh, Rajasthan, and Uttarakhand, providing comprehensive eye care services and training programs for allied ophthalmic personnel.

The hospital has significantly increased its capacity, performing over 40,000 surgeries annually and screening around 500,000 people, with more than half of its paramedical human resources coming from its training programs.

  • Community-level screening of adults

    Community-level screening of adults is conducted through a comprehensive door-to-door program implemented in villages, facilitated by the collaboration between Standard Chartered Bank and Combat Blindness International. Additionally, outreach camps are organized to extend screening services to adults in various communities.

  • Primary eye care

    With our 66 vision centers situated in both rural regions and urban slums across northern India, we deliver comprehensive primary eye care services directly to individuals, conveniently located near their homes. These centers offer cost-effective eyeglasses and timely referrals, while being linked to our tertiary center in Delhi through teleophthalmology services. The establishment and operation of these vision centers have been made possible through the support of our valued partners, including SCB, CBM, Seva Foundation, and Orbis.

Milestones & Track Record

SCEH launched the Certified Ophthalmic Paramedics Initiative in 2014, training young women from marginalized societies to become allied ophthalmic personnel, which has significantly increased the hospital's capacity.
