The Indian Virological Society (IVS), founded in 1984 at Haryana Agriculture University, Hisar, aims to advance virology research and development. Some of the conferences and seminars organised by IVS are - • VIROCON 2020 International conference on the theme "Evolution of Viruses and Viral Diseases" organised at Indian National Science Academy, New Delhi. • VIROCON 2018, International Conference on “Global Viral Epidemics: A Challenging Threat” organised at Postgraduate Institute of Medical Education and Research, Chandigarh. • VIROCON 2017 International Conference on “Viruses to Viromes in health and disease” organised at Nitte University, Mangaluru. • National Workshop on "Lumpy Skin Disease in India: Current Scenario and Future Challenges" organised at ICAR-National Institute of Veterinary Epidemiology and Disease Informatics (NIVEDI), Bengaluru. • International webinar on COVID-19 Pandemic: Concerns & Perspectives organised at Guru Angad Dev Veterinary and Animal Sciences University, Ludhiana. IVS acknowledges outstanding contributions by electing Fellows and granting prestigious awards like the Springer Nature-IVS Best Publication Award and Young Scientist awards. Collaborating closely with the World Society for Virology, IVS addresses global viral epidemics. IVS publishes the globally renowned journal "VirusDisease" in partnership with Springer Nature, formerly known as the Indian Journal of Virology (1985-2013). This journal covers a wide spectrum of basic and applied research on viral diseases, receiving manuscripts from researchers in 32 countries and distributed globally through the Springer Nature network. It is indexed in various databases like SCOPUS, EMBASE, Google Scholar, and more. Moreover, the society issues a biannual newsletter called "Virus Research News" to update on virology advancements, IVS activities, and related events. The newsletter features sections like Research News, Virology News, recent conferences, upcoming publications, and awards, offering precise insights into IVS activities. Presently, IVS boasts an active membership of 500 individuals, strengthening its pivotal role in the field of virology. The primary goals and objectives of the organisation encompass various facets in the field of virology: • To foster awareness and research programs for the advancement of virology by promoting scientific endeavours and facilitating discussions among national and international researchers and academicians. This exchange of scientific information aims to encourage interdisciplinary collaborations within the field. • The organization seeks to manage and procure funds and endowments, both in India and internationally, dedicated to promoting and supporting virology research. • The entity aims to promote virology through various publications such as journals, newsletters, books, and technical bulletins. These publications serve to disseminate knowledge among policymakers and experts in the virology domain, fostering informed decision-making and advancements. • The organization is committed to organizing national and international conferences, workshops, trainings, and lectures focused on diverse aspects of virology. These events serve as platforms for knowledge exchange and professional development. • The organization endeavours to invite esteemed international scientists to contribute to and further promote the field of virology through their expertise and collaborations with the organization and its members, thereby enhancing global knowledge and research in virology.
