SEEDS works with both communities that are exposed to disasters each year and those which do not face them too frequently. It conducts assessments, plans and trains to reduce the magnitude of damage.
SEEDS believes that disasters cannot be seen in isolation, but come with multiple dimensions and issues and thus, proposes solutions and workarounds to face the risks. It promotes working with nature to avert climate change impacts and adapt to nature-based solutions to manage financial risks effectively.

When disaster strikes it usually causes a lot of damage to homes and community infrastructure. SEEDS initiates rehabilitation by rebuilding these structures through the use of the latest techniques so that they are not only restored but are able to withstand future calamities also. It includes the use of environmentally friendly and locally obtained materials to keep the programme sustainable.
The programme additionally imparts training to construction workers on safe construction practices. School safety and community preparedness are also part of training efforts along with awareness of safe water, sanitation and hygiene. SEEDS also partners with Government agencies to include reconstruction planning in their processes.

SEEDS works with both sets of communities to be better prepared for future disasters and reduce overall risk. It starts with assessments, planning and training. We also support governments and communities on their contingency and early warning plans. SEEDS is an active member of the Asian Disaster Reduction and Response Network (ADRRN) and serves as its localisation hub.
SEEDS is also India's first agency to be certified for the global core humanitarian standards - an international certification system for quality and accountability in humanitarian response and is recognized for its 30 years of service in disaster and environment by United Nations Sasakawa Award in 2022 and Government of India Subhash Chandra Bose Aapda Prabandhan Award in 2021.
