Green Olympiad 2023
The GREEN Olympiad, initiated by The Energy and Resources Institute (TERI) in 1999, is a school-based environment quiz for students in India. Over the years, it has evolved to encompass various sustainability initiatives, becoming a recognized brand in environmental education. With participation from around 2000 schools annually, the Olympiad targets students from grades 4 to 12, aiming to sensitize them and enhance their capacity in environmental issues, sustainability, and green skills.
Aligned with the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020, the Olympiad promotes holistic development and 21st-century skills, moving away from rote learning. It is the first Olympiad in India that focuses on environmental studies and aligns with 'Goal 4 - Target 7' (SDG 4.7) of the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals. The examination covers topics like water, waste, energy, air, biodiversity, climate, global warming, sustainable development, culture, green skills, and current affairs related to -
Youth climate conclave
The 4th Edition of the Youth Climate Conclave (YCC) took place from 19th to 21st February 2023, with youth participants from across India gathering to discuss pressing climate action issues. During the event, the 'Youth Pledge' was drafted and later presented at the World Sustainable Development Summit 2023. The YCC coincided with India's G20 presidency.
The Conclave featured capacity-building sessions, group discussions, and technical sessions on climate action and the role of youth. A debate competition was organized to understand youth priorities and involve them in developing the 'Youth Pledge.' Additionally, an online photography competition was conducted, and the best entries were showcased at the Youth Climate Conclave Photography Exhibition in New Delhi.
The event also included a study tour to TERIgram, a formerly barren land transformed into a sustainable habitat by TERI, featuring advanced green technologies and a residency called RETREAT. Participants also visited the Intern -
Green budgeting for Puducherry
Green budgeting is a policy innovation that serves as a planning and assessment tool to incorporate environmental sustainability into various government initiatives. It promotes a system-wide approach by integrating climate and environmental considerations in the planning and implementation of policies and schemes. This approach involves ex-ante planning (pre-assessment) and ex-post reflection (post-assessment) to ensure that government departments align their goals, schemes, and policies with environmental and climate sensitivities. By adopting green budgeting, departments can also evaluate their contribution to climate change, fostering a more sustainable and climate-resilient approach to governance.

Accelerating Sustainable Training in the Armed Forces
The project aims to assess the carbon footprint of India's defence sector and propose technology interventions, such as simulator-based training, to reduce greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions while maintaining the training effectiveness of defence personnel.
The synthesis of the IPCC's 6th Assessment Report emphasizes the severe consequences of climate change on the environment in the coming decades. Urgent and ambitious action is needed to secure a livable and sustainable future for all.
Despite its focus on national protection, the defence sector faces rising GHG emissions, necessitating immediate efforts to decarbonize its operations. The global defence industry's contribution to CO2 emissions is expected to increase significantly, given its economic magnitude and large-scale operations.
To address this issue, the organisation collaborated with Zen Technologies to conduct a cutting-edge study on the benefits of simulator-based training in reducing the carbon footprint of the defence forc
