One of the poorest districts in India, Rayagada, is the focus of the IKI Small Grants project in the state of Odisha. It attempts to strengthen indigenous communities and other most marginalised communities' capacity for adaptation and resistance to weather extremes and variabilities. It ensures food and livelihood security by promoting farming practices based on agro-ecological concepts through training. The targeted population's nutritional condition is improved through the establishment and promotion of nutritional gardens. The districts' natural potential is valued through the management of land, water, and forest resources as well as the revival of traditional food crops.
The project targets 1.200 households directly and focuses on small and marginal landholders, especially women and young people in 25 villages.
