Vegetable Bank For Pregnant Women
StateStates
Tamil Nadu
In response to the challenges posed by the COVID-19 lockdown, an initiative has been launched to provide nutritional support to pregnant women from Below Poverty Line (BPL) families in India. These women, predominantly daily wagers and landless farm laborers, face heightened vulnerability due to the loss of income and access to food during the pandemic. Recognizing the critical importance of proper nutrition for maternal and fetal health, the initiative aims to deliver iron-enriched, vitamin-rich vegetables, fruits, and nuts directly to the doorsteps of 200 pregnant women on a weekly basis. By ensuring access to essential nutrients, the initiative seeks to mitigate the risks of low birth weight, anemia, and other health complications associated with poor nutrition during pregnancy. The ultimate goal is to support these women in delivering healthy babies with optimal birth weight and immunity.
