 At Bro. Siga Animation Centre (BSAC), our purpose is clear: to empower slum and rural poor communities, with a special focus on children and youth i Read moren Vyasarpadi, North Chennai.  We believe in creating a transformative impact by providing access to education and vocational training, raising awareness, and fostering community development to break the cycle of poverty and build a better future.  We also prioritize raising awareness about crucial issues such as child rights, gender equality, health, and education, empowering individuals to advocate for their own rights and well-being. Furthermore, our organization believes that by addressing these key areas of impact—education, vocational training, health, gender equality, and community development—we can uplift the lives of the youth and children in Vyasarpadi, enabling them to lead fulfilling and empowered lives.


Issue

In North Chennai, particularaly at Vyasarpadi, people are living in very poor condition, and the level of education is very low, so the community is not exposed to human rights and even less to child rights. Women empowerment rights in this area are being highly challenged: drug addiction, early marriage, child labor, child abuse, violence against children is part of the daily life. Women volunarable for lack of education & employment and all are dependent to the family members.


Action

- Goal 1 – Identify and train 1,000 marginalized children and young adults attain and reach higher education. - Goal 2 – Creating Safer Communities and Preventing Substance Abuse - Goal 3 – Economic Empowerment for 600 Women and Youth through Livelihood Programs - Goal 4 - Advocacy and Child Rights Through “Children's Movement & Youth Groups” - Goal 5 – Inculcate Reading Skills Enhancement as a culture among Children & General Public in and around Chennai.

Impact

- 1984 – Formation of informal Community based group - 1993 – Registration of the organization with TN Society Act. - 1993 – Construction of building with the support of Community participation - 2003 to 2023 – Reading Class Program has impacted 18,500 Children - 1984 to 2023 – Impacted the lives of more than 10,000 Children through Quality Education initiatives - 2009 – Restructuring of the organization & Celebration of Silver Jubilee - 2014 – Rebranding the organization visibility name as ‘AarVam’ - 2015 – 32,000 Households were covered and given assistance during Chennai floods - 2016 to 2022 – Vocational Skills reached to 800 youth to become economical development

Programs

  • SUPPLEMENTARY EDUCATIONAL PROJECT

    District

    BSAC instituted supplementary education centers. These centers function as backup schools for less privileged students. It is a community-based after-school learning program designed to improve the quality of education in slums and rural areas. Our goal is to provide high-quality education inputs to children from the poorest families and ensure every child achieves basic competencies in language, math, and science

  • CHILD PARTICIPATION

    District

    The AarVam Children Movement (children Sangam) is a democratic group composed of children from 8 to 18 years old who take up civic issues on behalf of their community and take action and implement special events in their areas.
     The children of Sangam foster a sense of leadership service to their community in the form of awareness and advocacy for child rights.
     More than 600 children from 20 children's clubs take part in the children's movement activities through holistic development programs such as sports, cultural, journalism, health activities, and many more

  • LIBRARY & RESOURCE CENTRE

    District

    The main objective is to build a reading habit among schoolchildren and the general public in the communities .A reading circle is formed in 20 communities with their members. The members will have access to the books regularly and promote reading habits among the people.
    Resource Centre activities is to promote the children and youth to provide various capacity building training and conducts the competition among to excel the overall development of the children and youth.

  • Reading Skills Enhancement Program (RSEP)

    District

    This project is to develop reading skills to improve the children's learning abilities. Government, corporation, and municipality schoolchildren are directly benefited by this project; more than 2000 children are benefited by this project every year. Special activities are also conducted to improve the reading skills of the children. More than 10,000 books are read by children every year.

  • Adolescent Life Skills Psychological Empowerment Program (ALPEP):

    District

    The Adolescent Life Skills Psychological Empowerment Project (ALPEP) implemented by BSAC aims to protect adolescents from engaging in antisocial activities and raise their awareness of moral issues. This project recognizes that the transition into adolescence can be challenging as young individuals undergo physical and psychological changes. To support them during this critical period, BSAC provides proper awareness and counselling sessions, equipping adolescents with the necessary skills to navigate through this phase of life.
    ALPEP organizes workshops on a quarterly basis, covering essential topics such as self-confidence, suicide prevention, early marriage prevention, positive mindset development, goal setting, and effective relationship management with family and friends. Furthermore, the project incorporates regular weekly and daily activities focusing on life skill education, extracurricular engagement, and the development of soft skills.

  • Vocational Training

    District

    Skill Development Training: Women & Youth:
    BSAC actively conducts skill development training programs targeted at women and youth in the community. These initiatives aim to empower participants by providing them with essential skills and knowledge. Programs such as General Duty Assistant (GDA) and tailoring are offered, enabling community youths and women to gain valuable skills that enhance their confidence and economic prospects.
    Through its vocational training and skill development initiatives, BSAC plays a pivotal role in equipping individuals with the necessary tools to enhance their capabilities and contribute to their own empowerment and socio-economic well-being.
