The Rajammal Trust for Special Children, operating since 2002, oversees the Kumaran Special School, where dedicated staff under the leadership of Mrs. Read more Senthamizhselvi work tirelessly to integrate special needs children into society. Through custom-curated curricula, the school ensures that each child receives tailored opportunities to meet their individual needs. In collaboration with the Rajammal Trust, the Kumaran Special School has evolved from a modest start with 5 children in 2002 to now educating over 50 boys and girls. The organisation's mission revolves around alleviating the challenges faced by people with special needs. It focuses on integration and capacity-building programmes, combining primary health and special education services. Prioritizing mentally vulnerable children from socio-economically weaker sections, the aim is to guide them towards a path of normal social and personal livelihood. The vision of the Rajammal Trust is to create equal opportunities for special needs children, fostering their inclusion in the broader community and society.


Issue

As we strive to make a positive impact in our community, our staff's commitment and hard work are essential. However, we are currently facing financial challenges that impact our ability to maintain competitive and fair salaries for our team members. 1. Your support in providing staff salary assistance will ensure the well-being of our dedicated staff and contribute significantly to our programs' sustainability and effectiveness. 2. Need funds to Purchase Land for a New Classroom Building. 3. Vocational training and self-employment program for Adolescents with mental disability, like phenol, candle, computer sambrani making, Doormat, agarbatti making and Agal Painting. 4. Study materials, IQ toys, and physiotherapy needs for Rehabilitation and Special education services. 5. School Van required for home-to-school transportation. 6. The Special mothers/women have been facing serious problems in the form of vulnerability, gender-based violence, the impact of the pandemic, lack of adaptive strategies, lack of access to financial services, social exclusion and disability. The lack of socio-economic support and financial dependency has worsened their conditions. With a vision of promoting sustainable livelihood opportunities for those who are not having any other source of income to maintain their family, So they would get free training on weaving, embroidery and tailoring cum job prospects to enable them to start their enterprise. To make the women artisans proficient in tailoring and designing skills, we conduct workshops. To implement this project, we require funds to teach and support 15 to 20 women/Special mothers


Action

The trust provides early intervention services, maximizes children's developmental resources, assists families in understanding and managing children with disabilities, and prepares children to function alongside non-handicapped persons.

Kumaran Special School has grown from teaching 5 children in 2002 to educating 50 children with special needs, providing them with Free physiotherapy, special education and vocational cum production center to support rehabilitation and vocational opprtunities for 1200 special children and their family.

The mission is to reduce difficulties of special children and create integration and capacity building programs through integrated primary health and special education services.

    The organisation, dedicated to special needs children, focuses on ensuring quality education through a comprehensive programme at Kumaran Special School. It covers daily routine management, life skills, etiquette, employability skills, social interactions, and financial literacy. The emphasis on vocational training, sensory integration, sports, yoga, and various therapies contributes to holistic child development. Notably, it provides pediatric physiotherapy, music and mantra therapy, cognitive behaviour therapy, and drama therapy. The school actively engages in projects like skill training, job placement, residential accommodations, community-based rehabilitation, and accessibility of assisted technology devices. Additional activities include adapted yoga, psychiatric intervention, recreational sports, and respite care services for parents. The goal is to equip these children for sustainable employment, higher education, and overall well-being.
