Chaitanya is a community-based microfinance institution operating in Maharashtra. It played a significant role in establishing the first Self-Help Gro Read moreup (SHG) federation in the region, known as 'Grameen Mahila Swayamsiddha Sangha.' This federation aims to encourage savings and credit habits among its members, facilitate resource mobilization, and promote knowledge sharing among women. Chaitanya's efforts have contributed to the expansion of the SHG movement across Maharashtra. Currently, Chaitanya has successfully promoted 40 federations, empowering thousands of self-help groups. These federations have become sustainable institutions engaged in financial and other social and developmental activities.

Programs
-
Women Empowerment Programme
Chaitanya empowers women across sociocultural, economic, legal, and political dimensions. Through community-based institutions and federations, it fosters collective growth. The microfinance programme enables financial empowerment, while legal experts and counselling centres address domestic violence and women's rights. Chaitanya also empowers women politically by raising awareness and facilitating access to rights. Its holistic approach promotes gender equality and women's capabilities in society.
-
Knowledge Management Programme
Chaitanya's knowledge management activities go beyond its role as a pioneer in the SHG movement. It provides hands-on training and resource services to others, focusing on areas such as financial learning, legal knowledge, livelihood enhancement, and organisational development. In 2016, Chaitanya established WISE (Wisdom for Impactful Social Empowerment) to capture and share its 25 years of experience, collaborating with partner institutions to promote learning and development in the sector. Additionally, Chaitanya engages in field research, pilots, and evaluations to innovate and improve services, bridging the gap between academia and practice. Emphasizing the importance of technology, it integrates technology with finance and development to ensure effective reach to underserved communities.
