The Trusts work towards healthcare, education, rural upliftment, water, urban poverty alleviation, energy, innovation, culture, and others. It impleme Read morents initiatives for the communities and also supports development initiatives by partnering with civil society organizations in these areas through various programs all over India. Currently, the Trusts' work is spread across 170 districts in 17 states of the country, touching the lives of over 800,000 households through interventions that include drinking water and sanitation, health and nutrition, agriculture, education, arts, crafts and culture and skill development. In healthcare, It targets the primary care and nutrition of women and children; non-communicable diseases with a focus on mental health; detection and early intervention for developmental disabilities in children; cancer care; and human resources for health. It works to ensure quality education for children of ages 3-18, especially those from marginalized backgrounds, works with government schools to improve learning levels, and helps build teachers’ capacity to enhance the quality of classroom instruction. The Trusts also work to promote women’s literacy, work to promote tribal education, and improve access to education for minority communities. It has also established institutions of research and higher learning like Tata Institute of Social Sciences, the Tata Institute of Fundamental Research, the Indian Institute of Science and the National Institute of Advanced Studies. Furthermore, the Trusts provides individual scholarships to assist students under its individual grant program for education. The Tata Water Mission works to improve access to safe water and improve the environment's sanitation levels. Projects in the Rural Upliftment Portfolio (RUP) target rural income generation through farm and non-farm activities, water conservation and irrigation systems, fisheries, production, post-harvest activities and marketing of produced goods. It also works towards developing and strengthening farmer producer organizations and other such institutions. This program also focuses on the management of forest resources, primary processing sectors, rural enterprise and business development, diversification and rural tourism. This program has initiatives throughout India. The Urban Poverty and Livelihoods Portfolio of Tata Trusts works to address the problem of poor living and working conditions in urban areas by focusing on migration, skill development, and habitat. The Trusts have various projects to promote the use of solar energy for irrigation pumps, lighting houses, and providing energy to communities. The clean cooking program provides clean cooking devises to rural households to overcome health and environmental hazards caused by using bio-fuels. Kalapana is a program that showcases organizations and artists supported by the Trusts, to raise awareness and cultivate support towards artists. The Trusts use innovative technologies to speed and scale up interventions, through its programs like Points for People, Internet Sathi, Project DRUV, and Foundation for Innovation and Social Entrepreneurship (FISE).
