The Sona Sarovar Trust, led by Sona Kumar and her daughter Priya Kumar, has been actively engaged in various social initiatives. Sona Kumar began her Read moreinvolvement by volunteering with an NGO at Andheri Station, focusing on educating young children who were working as petty vendors. Meanwhile, Priya Kumar collaborated with her students to honour and appreciate traffic police and BEST staff. The mother-daughter team also played a role in arranging an audition for physically and mentally challenged children on Zee TV's Antakhshri programme. Additionally, Sona Kumar dedicated a decade to volunteering with SHARE, an NGO supporting physically and mentally challenged youth from the slums, under the leadership of Mr and Mrs Ronnie Screwala. One remarkable success story involves 25-year-old Ranjana Kamble, who overcame the challenges posed by Polio in both her legs. Through the Trust's efforts, Ranjana received medical treatment that enabled her to walk with the assistance of callipers and crutches. Furthermore, she was provided with a Sewing Machine to empower her financially. The Trust's initiatives extended beyond individual cases, encompassing rural projects related to water, solar power, sanitation, and income generation. Prior to initiating urban projects, the team observed the dire conditions of a nearby slum, marked by poverty, illiteracy, and sickness. Recognizing that illiteracy perpetuated poverty, the Trust identified a key concern – parents in impoverished slums couldn't afford private education for their children, leading to school dropouts and economic challenges. To address this issue, it launched tuition classes and prioritized the health of children in the Anand Nagar slum, located in Jogeshwari West, Mumbai, India.

To counter this, it introduced basic Beautician Classes as a means for girls to both learn and earn, reducing their financial dependence on parents. Initiating Self Help Groups to assist women who lacked the necessary documents for opening bank accounts, the organisation now supports 60 women in regular savings. Needy women were provided with sewing machines to bolster family income through stitching. Additionally, it promotes women's economic independence by encouraging participation in Art & Craft activities, enabling them to create products and generate supplementary income.
