This initiative with rural, tribal students from grades 9 to 11 have the confidence and exposure to face the world post their schooling. Most students are shy and lacking in communication skills and the basic self-belief to be able to overcome obstacles and pursue their dreams. Our programme supports these students with identity-building, communication, self-management, career guidance, goal-setting, and soft skills such as problem-solving, critical thinking, and leadership skills so they can overcome their inhibitions and take on the world.

This programme is running in 4 blocks of Nashik district, namely Igatpuri, Trimbak, Peth and Surgana with nearly 1500 young students.

We have trained over 15000 women so far in trades ranging from food and spice processing, textile, and fem hygiene, to construction trades, and financial entrepreneurship.

We have also set up 2 women-only industrial zones in Maharashtra and support women entrepreneurs with network linkages through our annual exhibitions.

Through this programme we aim to bridge the gap between college students and industries by addressing skill gaps that form barriers to employment opportunities.

Students lack practical knowledge due to outdated machines and equipment in colleges and the lack of current industry insights in out-of-date syllabi. This impacts their quality of production once they enter the industry as professionals. With a focus on theory, students also do not learn project management, planning, reporting, and time management skills. They also require basic knowledge of safety measures, ISO practices, key performance indicators and key result areas which as students they have no prior knowledge of.

Through our trainings, we ensure students are technically skilled and job-ready with professional etiquette and communication skills to help them retain jobs and advance in their careers.

Impact

Through all our initiatives we aim to advance the Sustainable Development Goals of no poverty, gender equality, and decent work and economic growth. We believe socio-economic independence is the foundation for the transformation and empowerment of rural communities. Our programmes address the specific challenges faced by rural communities with a lack of access to opportunity and resources. Through tie-ups with leading industries, we ensure that our beneficiaries have the most in-demand market-oriented skills ensuring gainful employment or self-employment by taking on individual contractual work. Our entrepreneurship programmes have built a cadre of first-generation entrepreneurs with the business acumen and mindset to set up successful MSMEs. We have impacted over 70,000 youth, women, and adolescents through our collective initiatives pan India.

Vision and Mission

USS aims to empower learners to accept challenges using deep-rooted ethics and values, and to bridge the gap between various sectors of rural and urban India to improve living standards.
