Founded with the support of then Chief Minister Govind Vallabh Pant, the Ashram was granted 250 acres of forest land to spearhead research and development aimed at uplifting tribal communities. Its founding members were seasoned social workers dedicated to holistic rural development. The Ashram's mission centers on addressing fundamental challenges faced by forest-dwelling communities, particularly marginalized groups such as tribals, Scheduled Castes, and Other Backward Classes. Through confidence-building, capacity enhancement, and innovative development initiatives, the organization strives to foster self-sufficiency and self-reliance at the village level, embodying the essence of Gramswarajya. Over the decades, Banwasi Seva Ashram has expanded its scope to encompass diverse sectors, including agriculture, horticulture, animal husbandry, education, health, environmental protection, and women's empowerment. Notably, the Ashram has been instrumental in securing land rights for thousands, eradicating bonded labor, and enhancing access to education and healthcare. Its unwavering commitment to sustainable development and social justice has catalyzed significant transformations in the tribal villages of South Sonbhadra, fostering a harmonious blend of traditional values and modern knowledge.
