Skill and Empower the Un-Served(SETU) Foundation, a registered Trust located in Noida, India, emerged in 2007 with a mission to address pressing issu Read morees. With an aim to counteract the challenges affecting India's progress, the Foundation's projects concentrate on crucial aspects such as Women's Education, Youth Empowerment, and Livelihood Creation. In a nation grappling with a youth unemployment rate of 12.90% and gender-based literacy disparities, where men are recorded at 82.14% and women at 65.46% according to the 2011 census, SETU Foundation endeavours to contribute to positive change. Additionally, recognizing the dire need for enhanced education and skills development, the organisation strives to uplift the youth's proficiency in reading, math, and science, as highlighted in the Programme for International Student Assessment (PISA) Report of 2015. Moreover, SETU Foundation addresses the critical issue of blood shortages, particularly the staggering deficiency of 3 million units in India according to the WHO's 2012 report, with Delhi NCR facing a shortage of 100,000 units alone. SETU Foundation diligently channels its efforts to create incremental transformations that target essential areas. Its dedicated focus includes nurturing the growth of children and youth, advancing the education of girls, empowering women, enhancing the quality of education, promoting skill development programmes, and addressing health and rehabilitation needs. With an unwavering commitment to tackling significant challenges, it contributes to shaping a more equitable and promising future for India's citizens.

Impact

SETU Foundation has made a significant impact, currently supporting 1,842 students while reaching a total of 11,992 individuals so far, with 10,795 successful graduates and 8,894 empowered women, its efforts extend through 63 health camps and involve the dedication of 109 volunteers.

Programs

  • Project Saksham

    SETU Foundation's Project Saksham aims to empower women through skill development initiatives. In Noida's Village Nithari, a skill centre imparts tailoring skills to illiterate women, enabling them to pursue employment or self-employment and generate livelihoods. Additionally, 160 literate women are trained in Basic Computer Skills. In Sadarpur Colony, Sector-45, Noida, a multi-skill centre trains 960 women in areas like Basic Computer skills, Tailoring, Healthcare, Beauty and Wellness, and Hospitality. A new centre in Sector 12 Noida imparts training in Computer-enabled courses, Tailoring, and Textile to around 240 women annually. Overall, these centres can accommodate up to 1700 students each year. Furthermore, the organisation supports women entrepreneurs through self-help groups, providing sewing machines to 35 women in Noida and Jaipur, enabling them to establish businesses and contribute to their families.

  • Project Uday

    SETU Foundation's Project Uday empowers underprivileged children, especially girls, through education. The SETU Shiksha Jyoti Education Kendra in Noida provides education from Prep1 to Twelve standards with English as the medium of instruction, focusing on holistic development and event-based learning for 503 students (384 girls). Another centre in Sadarpur Colony serves 453 students (310 girls) from Prep1 to Eight standards with similar educational facilities and approaches.

    In Village Changoli, Greater Noida, Sixth Element Public School was integrated into the project, offering quality education to 480 students (223 girls) from marginalized backgrounds. The school boasts well-equipped classrooms, labs, and activity spaces, emphasizing overall growth and extracurricular activities like filmmaking, theatre, sports, and music. It provides free education, uniforms, books, and midday meals, ensuring a conducive learning environment and holistic development for children.

  • Project Samman

    Project Samaan focuses on skill development for individuals with special needs, including those who are hearing impaired, intellectually impaired, and physically challenged. The programme offers diverse courses such as Basic IT, Tailoring, and Hospitality, catering to the specific requirements of beneficiaries. With programme durations ranging from 3 months to a year, it aims to support 240 students annually. The inaugural centre was established on November 17th, 2016, in Sector-45, Noida, providing a platform for skill enhancement and empowerment for people with special needs.

  • SETU Women Empowerment and Employability Programme (SWEEP)

    SETU Foundation's SWEEP programme empowers women through vocational training in fields like IT, Retail, Tailoring, and Healthcare, supported by English communication and personal development. Notably, their Nithari Skill Centre equips 480+ youth yearly with IT skills, Tally, and Healthcare training. The Sadarpur Multi-skill Centre empowers over 960 youth annually in IT, Tailoring, and Healthcare. Behrampur Centre trains 400 women yearly in IT, Healthcare, and Tailoring. In the past, Nithari Centre trained 500+ youth in IT, Tailoring, and Tally. The Women Empowerment Programme achieved employability for 1645 youth through various centres. Biometric training secured jobs for 78+ youth. Over 400 women gained Tailoring and Hand embroidery skills.

  • Programmes with Corporates

    SETU Foundation extends its impact to the corporate sector, conducting vital awareness initiatives. It engages with over 20,000 employees through programmes on AIDS and Cancer awareness, focusing on health education. The organisation's Blood Donation Camps have collected around 5,000 units of blood, contributing significantly to addressing blood shortages. Prevention of Sexual Harassment workshops have educated more than 400 employees, while SETU also holds a role in Sexual Harassment Committees as an NGO member under the POSH Act. Additionally, Investor Awareness Programmes reach out to corporates, RWAs, and colleges, impacting over 3,000 individuals. The organisation's work emphasizes critical aspects such as Blood Donation, Health Camps, and workshops on the Prevention of Child Sexual Abuse and Sexual Harassment in the workplace.
