Lalbagh Rising Sun Social Welfare & Educational Society is a non-political, non-profit organisation operating in Murshidabad, Birbhum, and Malda Distr Read moreicts in West Bengal since 2010. The Society focuses on integrated rural development, women and child welfare, education, entrepreneurial development, and awareness initiatives, aiming to empower underprivileged communities. Registered under Indian laws for charitable status, it offers educational programmes, especially for women and youth, reaching students with job-oriented courses through open and distance education. The organisation is committed to grassroots initiatives, working on health, education, environment, organic farming, sanitation, and women's empowerment, with a significant focus on improving maternal and child health.

Impact

Supporting education, health, vision, and orphans, Lalbagh Rising Sun Social Welfare & Educational Society has impacted 1200 students directly, provided education to 1514 children, and supported the academic journey of 12 schools, benefiting 1972 students. Additionally, it conducted 900+ eye screenings, distributed 1000+ eyeglasses, and offered various health services to hundreds. Moreover, 25 orphan girls receive full home support, and 450 children in Government orphanages receive aid, including winter clothes, nutrition, sports gear, and counselling.

Programs

  • Training Centre Programme

    The Society offers free training in sewing machine usage and tailoring skills. Upon course completion, trainees are provided with sewing machines, enabling them to earn an income and support their families. Its curriculum covers cutting and sewing skills, empowering trainees to work independently or seek skilled employment. The aim is to provide vulnerable women with the knowledge and skills to generate income and become self-sufficient

  • Computer Training Institute

    Its Computer Training Institute offers free computer education to students from economically challenged backgrounds, including those from ST, SC, OBC, Minority, and needy families. It provides both Basic and Advanced Computer Training using state-of-the-art equipment such as computers, printers, and scanners. Certificates are awarded to successful students, many of whom are now employed in various Government and Private Sectors.

  • Agriculture Programme

    This project assists farmers in enhancing their skills, improving production yields, and ensuring financial sustainability. It aims to support farmers in enhancing their businesses and generating better income, particularly in challenging environments like the chars.

  • Literacy Programme

    The Literacy Programme aids in developing reading skills in young children. Baseline and end-line reading assessments evaluate children's literacy learning needs, track their progress, and assist schools and ministries of education. Teachers are trained to integrate the five core reading skills into their curriculum, ensuring students learn to read and remain motivated in the classroom. Additionally, communities are mobilized to support children through fun out-of-school literacy activities and locally relevant reading materials.

  • First Aid Training Programme

    First-aid classes offer essential knowledge and skills to assist adults and children in various emergency situations. Available online, in person, or through blended training methods, these sessions provide the latest information in formats that suit participants best.

  • Helping the Poor and Understanding their Rights

    Lalbagh Rising Sun Social Welfare & Educational Society supports and guides marginalized communities, particularly those in remote areas, to help them understand and access their basic rights. Many individuals in these communities cannot read and write, hindering their access to accurate information. The organisation strives to empower these individuals with information about their rights (such as education, healthcare, police protection, and legal support) while emphasizing the responsibilities associated with these rights.
