Anwesha Kolkata is a parent led organization working with children and persons with deafness for their social inclusion. We believe deaf children have Read more immense potential; they only need the right opportunities at the right time to emerge as contributing citizens as adults. Started in 2004, Anwesha has been always actively involved in creating an enabling environment for holistic development of children who are deaf or hard of hearing with their parents as equal partners through its early intervention and pre–school programme, counseling, guidance and parents training course, speech, language and grooming support to children. We are also working within the community through networking with other parents groups and likeminded organizations, advocating for the rights of children and persons who are deaf or hard of hearing. Anwesha has become a familiar name in the field of disability in West Bengal and has received the following awards from time to time: · Swami Nityananda Memorial Award for Nar Narayan Seva” in January 2020 by Ramakrishna Vivekananda Mission, Barrackpore. · Recipient of “The Telegraph Education Foundation" Certification of Honour For "Touching Lives" in 2019 ! · ‘Best Parents Group’ Award two times by the Department of Social Welfare, Govt. of West Bengal in 2011 and 2017. · The Legend Mahesweta Devi Memorial Award 2017. · Anwesha’s awareness activity on World Hearing Day was acknowledged in the reports published by World Health Organization (WHO) in 2017, 2018 and 2019.

Early Intervention and Preschool Programme
StateThis is a program designed for deaf young children. The development of language and communication abilities in a kid with hearing impairment is largely dependent on early identification, intervention, and adequate parental direction.
The foundation of this method is the employment of an amplifying device to enhance a deaf child's residual hearing. Youngster gains linguistic proficiency, improve oral communication skills, and strengthen their listening abilities through this program. The youngster is also exposed to literacy and numeracy over time. Preparing a deaf youngster for formal education and mainstream societal inclusion is the aim of this program.

Self Advocacy
StateThe best kind of advocacy is self-advocacy, in which individuals are given the confidence to speak up for themselves and demand their rights. A few years ago, the young adults' self-advocacy group BONDHU was established.
A group of energetic young people called BONDHU feels that everyone should have the same access to human rights and should be able to live without hindrances. They envision a world in which everyone is accepted and deaf individuals are not subjected to discrimination.
They are becoming aware that they share everyone else's civil, political, and personal rights. Additionally, they are learning that self-advocacy is a way of life and that rights come with responsibilities.
