    West Bengal

    The organisation runs a hospital in Jhargram with indoor facilities and an operating theatre. It provides free medical care to underprivileged tribal and backward caste individuals. Annually, over 9000 people benefit from these services. It has set up a physical rehabilitation unit in Jhargram and Tarakeswar that offers physical rehabilitation services and counselling services. Over 3000 patients in Tarakeswar and more than 9000 patients in total receive these services annually. In Jhargram, the organisation annually trains over 40 disabled youths in cycle repairing and sheet metal work to enhance their employability. Jhargram and Tarakeswar are home to workshops manufacturing mobility devices like tri-wheeler cycles, wheelchairs, ground mobility devices, crutches, orthosis, and prosthesis. Each year, more than 400 various mobility aids are produced. The organisation administers the ADIP Scheme funded by the Government of India, Ministry of Social Justice & Empowerment in West Bengal.

  • Child welfare

    The Jhargram unit operates an immunisation centre at its hospital, benefiting a substantial number of rural tribal and other disadvantaged children. The Pulse Polio Immunisation programme (PPIP) is also conducted in the Jhargram and Baranagore centers, covering an annual count of over 1400 children below the age of 5 years. The Children's Hospital in Jhargram, overseen by Bikash Bharati, provides clinic and counselling services for expectant mothers, along with extending outreach pre-natal, natal, and post-natal care services. This initiative serves an average of 40 rural women monthly. The organisation manages a children’s home for destitute boys aged between 5-18 years where it provides residential care and educational support to 150 children. Bikash Bharati operates Mission Vatsalay program in north Kolkata region, offering day care, basic education, nutrition, recreation, and healthcare to underprivileged children. Over 300 children in vulnerable circumstances are enrolled in this

  • Healthcare

    Bikash Bharati operates a free Mobile Dispensary in the Gopiballavpur 2 block in Jhargram to extend healthcare to underprivileged tribal and backward class individuals in rural regions,. The ASHADEEP centre in Jhargram and Tarakeswar provides counselling, detoxification, and referrals for individuals struggling with alcohol and drug addiction. The orthopaedic unit affiliated with the Jhargram unit specializes in cases of Polio and deformities, providing corrective surgeries free of charge. Comprehensive post-operative care, including essential assistive devices are provided. A Leprosy Clinic is jointly run with JLP in Jhargram, supplemented by periodic awareness campaigns for leprosy elimination. The organisation operates a mobile clinic for treating STIs/STDs, mainly catering to commercial sex workers, their clients, and substance abusers in North Kolkata. Bikash Bharati has collaborated with CARE and KMC to reduce TB-associated morbidity, mortality, and transmission.

  • Rights-based activities

    High Schools affiliated with the organisation and other designated institutions integrate human rights education, fostering an understanding of fundamental principles. This empowers students to identify and address human rights concerns while seeking solutions aligned with human rights standards. Regular mass awareness campaigns focus on rights related to Children, Persons with Disabilities, Women, and marginalized youth and adults. These campaigns address access to education, healthcare, and sustainable livelihoods.

  • Education

    The Society manages two High Schools in Jhargram, one is Bengali Medium and the other is a residential English Medium school. These institutions offer quality education to various children, including those from impoverished tribal backgrounds, destitute circumstances, and physical challenges. In Baranagore, the organisation operates a computer education centre offering courses in Computer Application, MS Office, and DTP for disadvantaged adolescents and youth. As part of the Special Adult Literacy Drive (SALD), higher-class students engage in a program for adult villagers in Jhargram. Vocational Training centers for Printing Press, Book Binding, Soft Toy Making, and Bakery & Confectionery are established in both Jhargram and Baranagore, targeting destitute and underprivileged children.

Over 9000 people benefit from Bikash Bharati’s medical facilities. The immunization centre covers over 1400 children below the age of 5 years. Mission Vatsalay benefits over 300 children from vulnerable background. The rural mobile dispensary attends to more than 50,000 patients monthly. The alcohol and drug deaddiction centre benefits over 500 patients annually. Over 450 patients undergo TB treatment annually. The computer education centre benefits 80 students annually.
