Liberal Association for Movement of People (LAMP) is a non-profit social welfare organization founded in 1979 by Dr. Malay Dewanjee at a meeting with Read morea group of young tribal people. Committed to equity, equality, and social justice, LAMP focuses on disadvantaged groups, particularly women, children, and tribal communities, through action research, surveys, campaigns, and advocacy.


Action

To empower the people of weaker sections of society and improve their environment by undertaking equitable and sustainable action programmes.

Impact

Since 1994, over 3000 children have been mainstreamed through education, health, nutrition, and vocational training under the Integrated Child Protection Scheme, supported by the Ministry of Women and Child Development, Govt. of India. Over 400 child labourers have been mainstreamed through education, health, nutrition, and vocational training via the Special School for Child Labourers project, supported by the Ministry of Labour, Govt. of India, and managed by the Kolkata City Level Right to Education Welfare Society. Destigmatised and educated hundreds of sex workers and HIV/AIDS positive individuals through the HIV/AIDS Prevention Programme, offering support and medical aid, with backing from UNDP, NACO, and the MAC AIDS Fund. Engaged around 30,000 villagers in 22 villages of Purulia District, focusing on Dalits, tribals, and marginalized groups, to enhance child education, prevent child marriage, and eradicate harmful practices through the Civil Society Support Programme, supported by the Department of International Development, UK, and PRIA. Benefitted over one million families, particularly Dalits and indigenous communities, by planting more than ten million trees in West Bengal, Odisha, and Jharkhand through the Environment Conservation and Social Forestry Programme, supported by the Ministry of Environment, UN Environment Programme, and the Govt. of Odisha. Organised over 5000 women and Self Help Groups across five states into cooperative networks for mutual support and development.
