The people who live in the Sundarban island regions, which are prone to disasters and are generally considered to be socioeconomically backward in ter Read morems of their remoteness and low living standards, are the focus of SSDC's ongoing involvement in their well-being. In the most remote Sundarban island areas, SSDC is committed to and has been working on community-based development projects in the fields of health, education, nutrition, women's empowerment, livelihood, safe drinking water, sanitation, eye health care, and services, as well as environment protection and disaster risk reduction.

  • Health

    Provides healthcare to the people in the Sundarbans area in the following:
    Eye Care
    Mother and Child Healthcare
    WASH
    Adolescent health - focuses on the hygiene of girls in puberty related to menstrual hygiene and puberty and gynaecological problems.
    Clinic Boat to provide health in the remotest areas of the Sundarbans island.
    Conducts health awareness camps with the help of ASHA workers.

  • Child Protection

    Conducts antitrafficking programmes. The Sundarban Social Development Centre (SSDC) has established community-based protection mechanisms through the establishment of Child Protection Groups (CPGs) and Child Protection Committees (CPCs). Community members have received training on current issues about child abuse, child labour, child trafficking, and children who are denied their human rights. These concerns inform the organization of programs. It is only by collective community protection that these social evils may be avoided and eradicated. With a vigorous campaign against trafficking, Children's Groups, Child Protection Committees, local government, and school authorities are seriously considering raising public awareness of this issue.

    Works to ensure that the children are raised with their rights and are provided care, food, shelter and clothing, health, water etc. with dignity.
