Instead of clinical treatment, the focus is on reducing the adverse impact and anguish caused by mental illnesses to patients as well as their families. The Early Intervention Centre (EIC) aims to provide diagnosis and assessment, occupational therapy, psychological services and speech & language therapy to infants and toddlers up to the age of 3 years who either experience a developmental delay or are otherwise at a biological or environmental risk of having a mental or developmental disorder. The centre provides the above services with the help of occupational therapists, physiotherapists, psychologists, speech therapists and special educators. The focus of its activities is on minimizing the impact of the mental disorder, enhancing the development and independence level of the child, instilling new behavioral skills in the child, providing counselling to the family and detecting the mental disorder at the earliest. The Speech Therapy initiative aims to assess, diagnose and treat speech impairments in children through a combination of parent interviews and direct testing of the child on different parameters such as speaking skills, play skills understanding, social skills & motor skills. Occupational Therapy aims to treat various mental disorders in children including poor co-ordination, decreased balance, delayed motor development, low/high muscle tone & strength, issues with social skills and difficulty with handwriting, self-esteem & self concept and feeding through improvement in the functioning of the nervous system. To provide treatment for the above disorders, it undertakes detailed assessments, specifically designed intervention plans, parent training programmes and demonstrations about therapeutic activities. The physiotherapy initiative aims to improve motor development in children with movement disorders through exercise, motivation, adapted equipment and education. The Special Education Centre aims to stimulate the mental growth of children with mental disorders and ensure their overall development.
