The Himalayan region, rich in unique biodiversity, serves as a vital refuge for species migrating due to climate change. As part of environmental conservation efforts, over 700 hectares across Rudraprayag, Chamoli, Tehri, Almora, Pithoragarh, Bageshwar, and Dehradun have been planted with Quercus serrata, achieving a 95% survival rate. Mountain communities rely heavily on forests for their livelihoods, but environmental degradation has led to resource scarcity, prompting rural outmigration, particularly among males, in search of urban employment. Efforts focus on innovative livelihood interventions and poverty reduction strategies. AT India adopts a value chain development approach to enhance incomes by improving access to information, financial services, and micro-finance, while strengthening farmers' groups, cooperatives, and agri-businesses and identifying niche products through value chain analysis.
