These animals are sometimes found abandoned by the roadside and are brought in by the police, NGO’s and farmers. They are provided complete care by the organisation which provides for their health, food and rehabilitation. Most of the cows brought in are milk dry. It provides the following facilities to the shertered animals and society at large: Protection & Shelter The animals are provided shelter through construction of cow sheds which currently houses over 18000 cows, bulls and their issues. The animals are protected from further harm in these facilities especially from their exploitation for meat by butcheries. Fodder The Gaushala has a huge fodder storage facility where about 40 lakh kilos of dry husk can be stored at a time. The husk is bought and stored to feed the destitute animals and they are fed two times a day. The feed consists of husk, green fodder, mustard cake and jiggery. Medical facilities The organisation has built an in-house medical facility where medical staff are present round the clock to treat cows and bulls involved in accidents and also those suffering from diseases. Adequate stock of vaccinations and medicines are kept at the site for any emergency. Free Milk Whatever small quantity of milk that is produced in the Gaushala is distributed free of cost to saints, gausewaks, nearby ashrams and charitable hospitals. Protection drives It has a unit of mobile vehicles which frequently go around the area to save and identify abandoned cattle. The cattle are brought to the facility to be looked after. Breeding Breeding of indigenous varieties of cows are being conducted in the facility to encourage farmers to keep these “desi” cows instead of foreign breeds. Training The organisation conducts vocational training highlighting the importance of organic farming and the merits of keeping indigenous cows for milk besides imparting knowledge on making products like dhoop, phenyl, cosmetics etc. Cultivation of green fodder The organisation cultivates it own green fodder to keep the stock updated. This fodder is regularly fed to the sheltered cattle. Electricity generation The gaushala has set up renewable energy sources to fulfil its requirements of power. It has set up bio-gas plants, solar units and a generator set. Through the bio-gas plant 25,000 kgs of cow dung are converted to CNG gas everyday. Bio fertilizer unit It has set a bio fertilizer unit where cow dung is converted to manure. It provides the manure at affordable costs to nearby farmers to encourage organic farming. Calamity relief The organisation has contributed to relief during the Madhya Pradesh and Uttarakhand floods by distributing food, shelter, setting up relief camps and providing life saving drugs to the affected population. Free food Free food is provided to saints and general people through Bhandaras all round the year. Provisions are also sent to saints and ascetics living in the hilly regions of Badrinath and Gangotri. Cultural Events, Hospital and Yagya shalas The gaushala is maintaining a free hospital to serve poor people with free medical consultation and medicines. It manages Yagya shalas on the banks of the river Ganga where vedic brahmins perform rituals for the welfare of the society. It also provides yoga training, natural and ayurvedic treatment through trust centres in Haridwar.

The vision is to protect and conserve indigenous Desi Gauvansh (cows and bulls) while promoting sustainable practices that benefit both the animals and the community.

Starting with just 11 cows in 2010 in Haridwar, the organization has grown to shelter and feed more than 21,000 cows and bulls across various locations.
