NBJK works to help disabled people by providing home-based physiotherapy and education, vocational training and linking them to Government welfare schemes also providing supportive devices and nutritional supplements to the needy.
Partnering with RINPAS and BFW Germany, it mobilises caretakers to reach mentally ill people and provide relevant treatment.
It has set up two branches of Loknayak Jai Prakash Narayan eye hospital and other eye care hospitals joining hands with local organisations. Weekly camps are held in rural areas and people with cataracts are brought to the hospitals for further treatment.
It has set up easy-to-reach and affordable clinics in parts of Jharkhand in partnership with local organisations which feature professional medical help. It also operates mobile clinics which deliver medical services to the doorstep of rural regions.

NBJK supports other small groups to further their commitments to social activism and has promoted many NGO’s and organisations by training them on governance, project management, transparency and accountability.
It operates a family counselling centre which counsels, visits homes and mobilises police help for victims in the case of domestic violence and marital conflicts.
The organisation through Lok Samiti mobilised women into self-help groups and oppose the consumption of liquor and also suggested policy reforms to expand State organisational structures in other parts of the country.

To enable decent livelihoods, enhance agriculture and encourage small enterprises the organisation runs several initiatives including working on water management to conserve water and put it to good use, providing small loans at minimal rates to slum dwellers to enable a home for themselves, conducting training for poor youth, widows and deserted women to give them financial stability, provides credit to small business owners to expand their concern and break out of poverty, promotes the formation of self-help groups, animal husbandry and builds infrastructure to draw water to fields and works to provide holistic development to many villages.

As part of its core efforts, NBJK seeks to provide education to poor and needy children. It provides education to girls, to uplift their lives and not fall into the trap of early marriage, runs the Lord Buddha home for children to shelter neglected children, runs schools to enable primary and secondary education, operates non-formal education systems to help slum-dwelling kids who have not been exposed to any learning till now, operates remedial coaching centres to bridge the gap of poor teaching in Government schools and works to create awareness in children about their rights and entitlements.

It is general scenario in Jharkhand and Bihar state that marginalized section the literacy rate is very poor and the dropout rate after primary or middle education is more than 70%. Quality of education in Government Schools is the great Concern in these states. Thus, NBJK started high schools and primary schools in Jharkhand and Bihar where children could get quality education either free or at very subsidised rate. We are also sponsoring Girls for their education after primary till matriculation.

India has world’s largest number of blind and 85% of it is avoidable. Cataract, Glaucoma, Diabetic Retinopathy, and refractive error are major causes of blindness in India which are easily treatable. Due to huge unmet need, NBJK has established 4 eye hospitals and providing community eye health services through these hospitals. We organize eye-screening camps, identify cataract and other eye patients, bring to base eye hospital on medical-van, do surgery, restore vision and drop them back to their respective villages.

Homeless and destitute children are like any treasure deep in mud without any sign of gold inside them. Their lives mean just to survive and there are plenty of chances for them to be beggars, drug addicts, criminals or any kind of anti-social elements. These children do not deserve this certainly as they need opportunity like other children to prove themselves. NBJK has initiated Lord Buddha Home for Children to provide these children homely care, quality education and all support for their growth as responsible citizens. LBHC is situated in Silounja village near Bodhgaya, the famous pilgrimage town of Bihar.

Impact
NBJK’s health initiatives impacted more than 101 people/children with disabilities to get supportive devices, artificial limbs and nutritional supplements for malnourished children and 13,260 people with mental illness and epilepsy in 40 health camps. Its educational programme helped 357 girls to continue their school education last year with the support of Action Village India, Give India and Jhonson & Jhonson with more than 450 girls having completed class 10 board examinations during previous years under the programme. Its watershed programme was able to cover 15000 hectares of land. Water was made available for additional 1000 hectares of land. 30 Farm Ponds, 30 Wells, 5 Check Dams, 100 hectares of land bunding and 200 hectares of tree plantation were done, providing benefit to 5000 farmers. In Dumka, it could provide 4 water structures for 57 peasants in 5 villages, bunding of 4 hectares of land in 2 villages and a 300′ lift irrigation facility. Training on SRI cultivation (290 farmers), tailoring (120 adolescent girls) and SHG formation (300 women) was held in the Koderma district with the renovation of 29 wells and 2 ponds, field bunding (4800 mts.), irrigation pipe (20 SHG members) and mango plants with fencing (1441 farmers). Also, SRI farming and fishery were popularized in 3 villages in the district. Its family counselling centre handled 2016 cases with support from Government owned Central and State Social Welfare Boards.
