Adarsh Charitable Trust’s community rehabilitation programme includes units that focus on eye problems for disabled children which may be a side effect of cerebral palsy.
If left untreated the issue may result in complete loss of vision in the child. The facilities include early detection, sensory integration and neurodevelopmental therapy, early visual stimulation, orientation and mobility training and Braille training.
It also provides newborn hearing screening services in four hospitals around the area, the trained personnel visit hospitals on particular days to screen newborn babies and if detected with ear problems follow-up action is initiated.

Adarsh Centre of Empowerment(ACE)

Is a future programme of Adarsh Charitable Trust which intends to provide vocational and job based training to children coming out of special school in a separate compound.
The ACE would have special vocational and rehabilitation training facilities for bakery and confectionery trade, food making trade, sanitary napkin making, paper bag making, candle making etc.

Home Based Rehabilitation Programme

Its Home Based Rehabilitation Programme (HBRP) is set up for children unable to utilise the centre's benefits. These children and their mothers are visited by a team of experts comprising a special educator and a therapist of Adarsh 2 days a week to train and facilitate individual-specific rehabilitation.

Child Developmental Evaluation, Intervention & Research Centre

It is a complete evaluation centre that uses modern and advanced scales and assessment tools to measure the level of disability. The centre focuses on Autism Spectrum Disorders (ASD) and on early detection and intervention in case it is detected.
It starts the process by initiating developmental evaluation & psychological assessment of the child by a developmental paediatrician, a child psychologist and a clinical child developmental therapist. Children aged 2 months and above are examined for various symptoms of developmental disability.
The evaluation is followed by developmental therapy and one-to-one need-based remedial education programmes.

Rehabilitation Of Children With Cerebral Palsy, Autism, Down Syndrome And Multiple Disability
Started with 7 children afflicted with Cerebral Palsy, the programme helps around 280 children with above challnges. To look after these children there are around 100 staff members. The programme helps children from 3 months old to around 30 years. All the children will get comprehensive rehabilitation measures inclduing Physiotherpay, POccupational therpay, Special Education, Psychotherapy, Academic training etc. Its a one stop rehabilitation centre for children with above problems.

This is the newly launched centre of Adarsh Charitable Trust for the vocationla rehabilitatioin of adult children with challenges. 13 vocations are planned at this new centre. One of the major activities is Bakery and Confectionary .

Home Based Rehabilitation Porgramme
As the name says, its home based rehabilitation programme, where childrena are rehabilitated at their home. It’s a mobile rehabilitation unit. There are 4 Home Based Rehabilitation unit which help around 140 children from 15 local areas in Ernakulam District. Majority of these children are severely challenged children.

Risk Baby Unit
Risk Baby Unit helps to identify potentail disabilities in new born babies who are born with risks like Prematurity, Low birth weight etc. A trained qualified therapist visists selcted hospitals in town and screens babies who are born with the above rrisks. Various screening tools ar eused to screen the babies. All these risk babies are called for follow up visist every month for any deviation from the normal development. If any aberration from the normal development noticed thesebabies are sent for intensive Early Intervention programme.

Impact
Adarsh Charitable Trust has rehabilitated more than 500 persons by hand-holding them to the mainstream of life, its centre has so far helped around 1000-1200 children with Developmental Assessment, Paediatric evaluation, Psychological assessment etc. Every month around 70-80 children avail of various services from the centre, out of around 280 children at its main rehabilitation centre, around 30 are under the care of an early intervention group.
