Department of social work
The Department of Social Work commenced its journey modestly in 1955, initiating a Diploma Programme in social services (DSS). Subsequently, in 1961, the department introduced the Master of Social Work (MSW) Programme, offering specializations in Personnel Management / Labour Welfare and Industrial Relations. Expanding further, in 1969, the MSW programme broadened its specializations to encompass Social Welfare Administration, Family and Child Welfare, Community Development, and Medical and Psychiatric Social Work. Within a short span, the MSW Programme garnered considerable recognition. The department extended its scope by launching various Live Labs, Research, and Training initiatives in Social Work and related areas. In 1998, the department embarked on internationalizing Social Work Education through student and faculty exchange programs by signing an official MOU with the Western Michigan University, USA and Rajagiri College of Social Sciences.

Rajagiri outREACH (Rajagiri Educational Alternatives and Community Health) Service Society functions as the Professional Service Wing of Rajagiri College of Social Sciences, Kalamassery. It operates under the registration of the Travancore-Cochin Literary, Scientific & Charitable Societies Registration Act XII of 1955.
Established in 1982 and officially registered in 2002, Rajagiri outREACH holds several recognitions and accreditations, including FCRA registration (No.052850501), Exemption under 80G(5)(vi) of the IT Act (CIT/CHN/12A/Tech-11/2002-03 from 1/4/2007 to 31/3/2010, GST # 32AAATR5978C1ZI). Focused on establishing a research ecosystem aligned with the NEP 2020, RRDC's impactful research outcomes are supported by its robust Research Information Management System and financial backing from diverse sources.
Recognized by the Department of Scientific and Industrial Research, RRDC offers cutting-edge facilities and comprehensive assistance for impactful research endeavors. The College Management plays an active role in fostering research, fostering collaborations, and facilitating external funding opportunities. -
The International Centre for Consortium Research in Social Care Disciplines
The International Centre for Consortium Research in Social Care Disciplines collaborates with researchers worldwide to craft practice models in social care, integrate healthcare systems, and advocate for evidence-based health policies. The center's mission is to narrow the divide between knowledge and practice, bolster research in social care, and produce high-quality publications. Key initiatives involve creating technology-driven interventions, merging social and healthcare approaches, and tackling psycho-social challenges. Esteemed partners include institutions such as the University of Melbourne and the University of York.

Doctoral Centre – Social Work
The Doctoral Centre at Rajagiri College of Social Sciences, recognized by Mahatma Gandhi University via Order No. AC.AII-1/504/87 dated 6.5.1988, specializes in doctoral research in Social Work, Sociology, allied Social Sciences, and Management Studies. Over the past 25 years, the Centre has supported both full-time and part-time PhD research scholars in their approved study domains. Currently, the Center has six proficient Research Guides in Social Work. Notably, the Centre has conferred doctoral degrees in Social Work upon 46 scholars since 1990.
