It aims to support people with disabilities by providing a variety of services which include education, accommodation, nutritious food, vocational training, sports and placement based rehabilitation. The ultimate aim of the organisation is to create equal opportunities for people with disabilities. Samarthanam runs integrated primary, secondary and residential schools to support visually impaired students pursuing higher education. The initiative 'Shrishti' incubates BPO training units to provide soft skills and call centre training to people with disabilities. The initiative 'Swadhara' is structured to work for disabled and marginalised women along with their children to provide social justice to victims of sexual abuse and harassment. It provides food, shelter, vocational training, counselling, suitable placement opportunities, medical support and help to reconcile with family. The initiative 'Sunadha' is Samarthanam's cultural troupe comprising visually impaired dancers. The initiative 'Parisara' is an environmental initiative which provides end-to-end waste management solutions for corporate organisations and residential complexes. The organisation further facilitates direct livelihood opportunities to persons with disabilities and women in distress through its social enterprises. It also incubates sports initiatives like the Cricket Association for the Blind in India (CABI), which encourages the game of cricket for the blind and visually impaired players across India.

Samarthanam School
DistrictSamarthanam's school started in 2004; this Kannada medium school offers free residential facilities to children with disabilities and underprivileged kids. Equipped to educate 300 plus students; the School provides secure, hygienic and accessible infrastructure with an excellent learning atmosphere. Children with disabilities include visually impaired, physically impaired, speech and hearing impaired. We also cater to the school dropouts and children form socio-economically backward communities. The school is run with a team of trained and experienced full time teachers who ensure that the children do well in the recognized Board exam. All expenses towards education are borne by Samarthanam. The highly committed and consistent flow of volunteers from companies conduct activity based classes in languages, civics, science and mathematical concepts etc which help the students to learn better. The school also promotes sports and performing arts as part of co-curricular activities.

Additionally, special attention is given to slow learners and children with disabilities through remedial classes, expertly guided by teachers and volunteers. The organization further supports the children's well-being by providing nutritious mid-day meals, ensuring healthy growth and facilitating better learning opportunities. Moreover, those in need of counseling receive essential support from experienced teachers. A key aspect of the success of Samarthanam's education program lies in its foundation of qualified and well-trained teachers who play a pivotal role in shaping children's futures. One of their projects, 'Inclusive Education for children with disabilities and the underserved, aims to achieve multiple objectives, such as maintaining academic excellence and discipline, fostering leadership and team-building skills, and ensuring the overall health and hygiene of the children. Samarthanam Trust for the Disabled
Samarthanam Trust for the Disabled is a non-profit organization engaged in the empowerment of persons with disabilities and the underserved through its diverse initiatives. Areas of intervention include 'Inclusive and quality education, Livelihood resource centres, Environment projects for building a green city, Art and culture, Rehabilitation, Health and nutrition, Sports and Assistive Technology Solutions. The organization also facilitates direct livelihood opportunities for hundreds of persons with disabilities and women in distress through its Social Enterprises. Samarthanam was established in the year 1997 by Founder Managing Trustee Dr. Mahantesh G Kivadasannavar along with his schoolmate and childhood friend, Late Sugur Paramashivaiah Nagesh. The founders, being visually impaired and having witnessed various challenges, have together conceptualized Samarthanam, an organization which would cater to people with disabilities, including the visually impaired and underserved.
Since its inception, Samarthanam has been working to empower the visually impaired and disabled. As the journey firmed, so have the reach and programs.
