The aim is to provide a viable alternative Read moreto the corrugated metal and cement roofs and overcome the challenges posed by the high cost, discomfort, time & cost intensive repairs and health hazards associated with traditional cement/metal or concrete roofing systems. It provides a solution to above challenges in the form of its product ModRoof which is a low-cost modular roofing system for low-income communities residing in slums and villages of developing countries. The roofing panels are made from recycled packaging and agricultural waste. For logistical ease, the roofing system has been designed to be modular so that it is easy to ship, install and replace individual panels in the system. The panels have been integrated with multiple features to overcome the shortcomings of traditional roofing systems. Apart from being low-cost and low-maintenance, the panels are waterproof, fireproof, cooler during summers, dry during monsoons, aesthetically attractive and available on Equated Monthly Installments (EMI) through a micro-finance loan system. With the aim of enabling future applications, the panels have also been embedded with solar cells which can charge mobile phones and light up LED bulbs.
