Programs

  • Civic Participation Programme

Janaagraha's Civic Participation programme empowers citizens and councillors through data, tools, and participatory platforms, promoting democracy and citizenship at the local level. MyCityMyBudget engages citizens in city budgeting, Swachhata Technology Platform facilitates sanitation efforts, City Politics builds coalitions for urban transformation, Ward Infrastructure Index measures infrastructure quality, Liveability Metrics enhances urban quality of life, Slum Dweller Associations empower the urban poor, Public Eye combats traffic violations, and Civic Learning educates youth for active citizenship. These initiatives drive civic engagement and positive change in India's urban areas.

  • Municipal Finance Programme

Janaagraha's Municipal Finance programme strives to enhance cities' capacity to provide high-quality infrastructure and services for their residents. It achieves this goal through policy and process reforms, leveraging technology to boost revenue generation, and fostering accountability and performance. Cityfinance.in, launched by the Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs, standardizes financial information on cities nationally. Janaagraha's collaboration with the 15th Finance Commission focuses on increasing fund allocations, tracking their usage, and improving urban governance standards. Technical support to the 6th Haryana State Finance Commission assesses urban governance quality and financial sustainability. The organisation also works on augmenting city revenues and optimizing public finance management to ensure efficient fund allocation and utilization, enhancing service delivery transparency and accountability.

  • Policy & Insights Programme

Janaagraha's Policy and Insights programme focuses on gathering knowledge and understanding of urban governance and citizenship through primary and secondary research and data analytics. This effort aims to inform policy reforms and enhance civic engagement. The Annual Survey of India’s City-Systems (ASICS) assesses city health by evaluating the quality of urban laws and policies, providing scores that indicate the strength of urban governance. The organisation also works at the intersection of city systems, climate, and urban public health to improve city infrastructure and services, with a focus on enhancing the quality of life for women and the urban poor. The Research and Insights team plays a crucial role in supporting programmatic monitoring, evaluation, and learning while providing data and thought leadership to further Janaagraha's mission and vision.
